healthy calves

Ive been calving here for about a month and all the calves have been very healthy so far. With all this rain i am getting concerned of scours in the near future. The old calves are handling in fine but the calves that are just couple days old are taking it harder. This cold wet rain is tuff on them. Im sure the older calves are going to be find but do any of you reccomend giving and shots or antibiotics to the new borns that are being stressed the most through this wet cold weather. I dont vaccinate in the spring so i dont know much about it. I usually have just good luck with keeping healthy calves but ive doubled my herd and they are calving on a 20 acre pasture, about 140 head. I am going to work on early next week getting the older calves moved over to a new pasture. Any suggestions for keeping this newer calves healthy?

Alot of people around here use Nuflor. I dont know much about it but one rancher swares by it says he hasnt lost any to pnemonia or scours or anything, so i guess it works!

There's not much that will substitute for a clean calving area. I realize that you're limited on space with the addition of extra cows, but try to sort cattle just as often as you can. If it were me, I would move the springers to a fresh pasture instead of the pairs.

Any variation of the Sandhills calving system that you can do should offer a lot of benefit for you. The more pastures you can make, the better off you will be.

Yep, move the springers ahead if you have a problem... I really need to invest in soome portable fencing to start dividing my pastures more so I can move them more.. As it s we do it once a week basically.. With it being so wet right now we might have to do it more often but our 120 acres of 90% sandhill is still pretty dry for the most part... The draws are filled with water but the tops of the slopes are in pretty good shape still...
