What are everyone's thoughts on using GnRH in your synch program on heifers?
My main question is with the CIDR-PG heat detection method, there is no GnRH used. With the Select Synch + CIDR & TAI, you give GnRH when CIDR is put in, PG on day 7 at CIDR removal, heat detect then TAI on day 10 all the nonresponders. So if I breed on standing heat, do I give the second shot of GnRH? I have heard yes and no. With Select Synch, the conception rate is about 55%. I have used both protocols, and can't tell if one is better than the other. With Select Synch I have given GnRH at CIDR insertion, then either given the second shot at standing heat or not given it, and on the particular cows that either got the second or not, I was still at about the 55-60% rate.
Let me kow if you have had experience with this. I have been getting lots of questions lately and I am trying to sort some things out for the customers I deal with.
