Today I sorted-off and scourguarded the heifers, and a few cows which needed to be in for various reasons :D .

Who's next?...

The yearlings were in the yard today as well, checking out the action in the corrals :) . They're cute to have around up until this time of year...then they just turn into a pain in the neck. I'll be happy to have them next year at this time though  .

I guess I need to build a fence before they decide to get on the deck  .

These two had the same look my wife had late in pregnancy....don't touch me, don't look me, don't talk to me and while you at it, get me some pickels!

All kidding aside, good luck with the upcoming calving season.

Girls look good Wyoming,it's always nice to have visitors drop by,even if it's a bunch of heifers :) Looks like you're staying dry out there, have you had any storms lately?

Thanks :D . No storms for about a week now, but it's supposed to be cold and unsettled next week...that's why I chose to work the heifers a little early to avoid misreable weather  . I don't think I'll get a calf prior to the 16th (bulls went out with the heifers May 16, the cows May eighteenth). I'm excited to see what sort of calves these heifers have out of my new angus bulls, the calves should mostly be angus with a touch of gelbvieh...hope this latest adventure in genetics works for me!

They look really good, and looks like you had a nice day for it. Jill would keep them off your porch for you

Your heifers are definitely looking good right now. They are about the same stage as ours, ours are due about Feb 20th and a lot of them are getting pretty heavy. I can't wait, and am starting to think that our syncronizing experiment worked quite well.

Good luck with your calving

Thanks! :D I think synchronizing worked here as well... I hope to get them over with. I know I have at least one late heifer who was in heat the day I took the bulls out in July, but for the most part, they look very bred-up.

Good luck with your calving as well...I'm sure we'll be night checking at the same time again :D .

I'll tell you in 2 weeks how well the syncronizing worked  But right now I am wanting to do it again.

Maybe we can talk on some of those late nights, when we are waiting on something :) :D  . But, if the bulls are as easy calving as they should be, and if the weather is nice, we may not do too many middle of the night checks. We will have to see. The heifers are big enough that we should be OK.

Better keep an eye on them. I turned the bull in with mine on May 15 and had a set of twins last night-two weeks before the due date. 'Tis the season.....

   You noticed right! I take great pride in my squeeze chute since I had to use junk for many years prior to buying this one three years ago. The vet even got scolded for accidently smearing bangs tattoo ink on it last fall  ... that doesn't just wipe off easily you know. It does get cleaned after each use, not each cow, but that's not a bad idea  .

Richard, I hear ya'...I'm keeping an eye on them. I keep thinking it's going to be a year for twins, so we'll soon find out :D . I did leave them out one more night before starting to night check them. This week I plan to sort some heavy cows in since the weather is supposed to change this weekend.

I finally got a person chute they are really good.
Those heifers will not have any problems calving they way they are built and made. Just watch the late ones.

Interesting I bought 4 head at 2 major REG Angus sales. Nebraska and Missouri. Have alot in those great Reg Angus heifers all four were due Jan 26th still waiting.

I'll sell you four head of my commercial Balancers...ready to pop for the same price AND throw in freight . Good luck calving your heifers out, it seems like waiting for them to start calving is more exhausting than being in the thick of calving! :D
