Age 70 and grew up on a working cattle and alfalfa ranch in the mountains of Colorado with some time spent with relatives on large cattle ranches in Texas where the mesquite thrives. A few years in Montana on a ranch then moved to the mountain ranch land of Oregon. Now retired I enjoy reminiscing and writing about ranch life and writing cowboy poetry and playing guitar.

Where about along the Oregon Trail? I am in Baker County about 3 or 4 miles from the trail. The closest neighbor's ggg grandparents came here in covered wagon on the trail.

To the northwest of you above Warm Springs near the river where the mighty sturgeon still swim. The country of the dammed. Been all over Baker county many years ago. I visited the Trail Interpretive Center after it opened. The part of the trail that impresses me the most is coming down Dead Man's Pass.

The wife was raised and spent a lot years in the area on the other side of the river. Probably a little ways east of you too.

This place is pretty quiet anymore, sometime it takes a couple days before we get back to check in.
This week it's been as busy as it's been in a couple years.
Hang around maybe it's picking up.
I read your poem, used to write a bit back in the day when life wasn't so busy.
Well, Big Muddy....you never told us about that! So let's see some poetry from you.
I do a little (darn little) poetry, but it would be fun to share some here.
You first.

I wrote this a few years back.

Scared Ground
Time Marches on.
Or is it the winds of change?
The Cowboy's old stompin' ground
Now has women on the range.

You'll find them on the big ranches
Of the old Southwest
Punching Cows, ridin' broncs
Fittin' in with all the rest.

Workin' in the Feedlots;
Up and down alleys in a Stockyard,
Calvin' out, starting colts.
Hell it ain't that hard

Some do it for the love of horse,
Some for the love of the land.
Some just to get out of the house,
Some for the love of a man.

They'll do the job of any man
and do it better them most.
The only trouble that they have
Is takin' a Pee standing behind a post.

đź‘Ť I couldn't find the clapping hands. That was good!!

I'll try and find some of mine now, since you obliged us. I hope others with poems they have written join in. Let's have another one whenever you have a mind to, BMR.
