take out the floor plate in front of the seat
you need some long extensions I think.
two bolts are holding it to the back of engine. It's not the easiest thing to do. good luck
But, how do you get a socket on the bolt and what size is it? On my tractor the body of the starter motor is in the way of getting a socket on the bolt because of the starter O.D. (outside diameter)
It seems to me you need to use the box end of a 9/16 because it's a 12 point head. I might be mistaken, it's been a while since I did mine but I know I didn't need any special tools, just a bit of patience. They tend to be expensive to get fixed too because they turn backwards compared to other starters which makes them rather oddball :? Good luck.
Thanks Silver, I will let hubby know. Nothing like having your field tractor not start when you are trying to harvest .. Between breakdowns and the rain I don't know if we will ever get done. :?
Just wanted to update that we got the old starter off and the new one on. I took alot of patience and a few curse words . Mr HD put different bolts on than the originals so if it ever needs to be worked on again it will be alot easier.
Now if the rain can stay away so we can get some cutting and baling done, things maybe just looking up .
LOL, BMR ,the first thing I said to Mr HD was " are you sure you can use different bolts ", he said " Yes" , I said "Did you ask ? " His reply cannot be repeated on here .
I should know better than to ask, especially with what he does for a living.
