For all the Tom Coburn fans. You can stop trying to make your own decisions now. He's endorsed John McCain.

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) endorsed McCain at a rally here this morning. Coburn told the rather subdued crowd, “What we need in our country is somebody that has the courage and the will and the constancy to take on the status quo.

“We hear everybody talking about change, but there’s only been one person who is in the race -- in either party -- who has been about change. Their whole life has been about change. Whether it be for judges, whether it be about protecting innocent life, whether it be about standing on principal, even when it cost you.”

McCain altered his stump speech to appeal to the new target of conservative South Carolina voters by leading with his pro-life record.

“The first thing I want to tell you is that I’m proud of my pro-life record of 24 years in the United States Congress,” he said. “I believe in protecting the rights of the unborn. I have a consistent, unwavering voting record and I believe some of the most sacred words ever uttered were that ‘All of us are created equal and endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights’ among these are life, that applies to the life of the unborn as well as the born.”

He also promised more conservative judges: “As president, I will nominate the closest thing to a clone of Justice Roberts I can find.”

McCain is putting a lot of hopes in appealing to the military-heavy state of South Carolina and thanked the state’s troops.

“I’m sure you know that the South Carolina Guard has probably been deployed and done more than any other guard in the United States of America,” McCain said. “You have 2000 brave young South Carolina Guard in Afghanistan today -- and I can’t tell you how proud I am of the South Carolina Guard and Reserve.”

He also knows that Saturday’s election is pivotal for his campaign to continue.

“Obviously South Carolina will play, as it has for many, many elections, a key role in who the next President of the United States is,” he said. “Political pundits in this state are quick to point out that no one has ever lost this state and then gained the nomination of the party.”

McCain ended the rally by assuring voters that the momentum is not gone, despite last night’s second-place finish in Michigan.

“We’re gonna be fine. And next Saturday, we need your vote. We need your vote. We will win in South Carolina. We will win in South Carolina.”
