Haven't heard much from you lately. Are you staying gainfully employed and off the streets over there in good ole Great Britain?

I miss hearing about your Rhodesian background like we used to from time to time! Our daughter is spending the summer in Zambia working as a student nurse in a hospital so we will get to hear a few more stories about Africa and some of its people when she returns.

Hi Burnt, been busy with my new job as livestock manager on this farm;
http://www.laverstokepark.co.uk/
I have been reading through the posts but not posted much recently, still missing owning my own cattle, but intend to remedy that once I can organise some grazing.
We have been busy raising money to help destitute families and pensioners in Zim, and supporting two orphanages, AIDS is taking a terrible toll on families there.
Mil visited recently (not seen her in 20 years) was a good visit despite my initial reservations, and we caught up on news from the farm in South Africa, and the other family businesses, the security fencing is struggling to keep up with demand, the reclaimation of the mine dumps for building material is now making more than the gold production!
What part of Zambia will your daughter be working in? My dad was construction engineer for the Nakambala sugar refinery, I went to school in the nearby town of Mazabuka, and my mom was a nursing sister in the local hospital there. She needs to visit some interesting areas such as Victoria falls, Luangwa game reserve, and lake Kariba, plenty of wildlife there, so she needs a good camera!
Blessings to you and yours, Andy.

Our daughter is in Macha, in the south-west of Zambia. She is connected with a doctor and his wife who work at the hospital. I'm not sure how much traveling time she will have as she is going to be spending most of her brief time with the local nursing class in their practicum. But she did buy a good camera for this trip. I think she will have a few days for sightseeing at the end of the term.

She brought over 900 photos home from her stay in Malawi a few years ago! Some were absolutely stunning shots of scenery and wildlife. And many of them were incredibly fascinating glimpses into the Malawian lifestyle. Not too much like rural Ontario!!

The people there appear much more content than we are and have soooo little in the way of material things. But their church services and obvious joy in worship blow ours right away!! S'pose there's a connection?

She seems to feel the pull of Africa even more strongly than her dad!! But she is acting on it rather than being like me and just thinking about it.

Best wishes to you as you endeavor to put a cattle business together once again. I admire your tenacity in view of the changes that you have had to go through.
