BMR,
Just finished reading a local history book about the Wood Mountain/Big Muddy area. Pretty interesting stuff!!!
I have to see that country now!!

The rig that #1 son is on is drilling near Midale right now.....(about halfway). He works a 12 hour shift and commutes from here every day.....oh to be young again.... anyway my point is it really ain't that far!!
The book gives excellent accounts of the boundary commission, ranching actvities and of course the Indian and Metis stories, as well as the outlaws that passed through your area.
Like it or not, we're coming next summer!!! :)

Do you mind sharing the name of that book?

Mr. FH was in that country a few years ago and I'm sure
he'd enjoy reading it too.

Thanks in advance.

While you're down this way, you might want to check out the Grasslands National Park. Gorgeous ranch country down there. Should still be ranch country too, but oh well. Wood Mountain is pretty nice, and they have a couple little museums that are interesting. But so far I have never been down to the Big Muddy, would like to though, some day....

Your welcome Tim. I think I have the same book here to read yet this winter. We live in the yard that the Mounties first came to when the established the Big Muddy Post. They moved farther south around the hill the second year here. The Willow Bunch trail runs thru our yard and that's the one Sitting Bull followed when going back to surrender 125 years ago.

BMR, I hope to make it to your place yet.
Roger tells me it is just beautiful.

Would like to bring the grandson up for the gopher hunting.

FH, It is called "Wood Mountain Uplands: From the Big Muddy to the Frenchman River". Written by Wood Mountain Historical Society.
I borrowed the copy I have so I'm not sure where it can be purchased.
