They seem to have a lot of things that aren't available around here.
Frozen sour cherries, for one thing. I love to bake with them and they
are almost impossible to find. They have lots of frozen stuff; pineapple,
strawberries, blackberries, etc. They have some meat products.
One thing that made me chuckle was their Rib Eye steaks. It says
"Rib Eye Steaks. Tenderized*. Cut from Top Sirloin beef
seasoned for your summertime grilling. :???: I think they are
mixed up and this is sirlon steak... And it must be packed in something
to tenderize and season it. The * is qualified at the bottom of the page. It reads
"Holten steaks come cryo-vac'd and indicidually packaged for ease of use and longer frozen life."
I'm not buying them, but I'd bet there
is some kind of marinate in that cryovac to 'tenderize and season'...doesn't mean it would be bad, but they
are advertised at
$3.10 each and each steak weighs 8 oz. That's $6.20/lb for
supposedly RIB EYE. Oh well.
They have lots of spices and frozen vegetables; frozen fish; appetizers;
frozen cookie dough, nuts; cheese; etc. It's a 40 page catalog.
Do you have a Schwann's man that delivers in a truck to your house?
This is like that, only you have to wait a month to get your order, so
it's less expensive. I am going to try some things and see what I think.
I just wondered if anyone had any experience with this company.
Mrs. H sent me an email and she says the stuff is really good.
