MCG got in a little trouble, so she can't reply. I can reply, after the third day, she put the rope halter on him and has been using the rope halter ever since. Prolly the easiest steer she ever halter broke herself in her life!! I had my doubts about him, he seemed a little wild, but what a pussycat. He follows her around everywhere (with the rope halter on, of course) gets a bath, gets rinsed with nice, cold water so later on in the day he isn't dying of heat 8) I'm totally amazed at how fast and how well he got halter broken, and no kidding, he really DID weigh 1185 when we first put the metal halter on him, cuz I zero'd the scale and weighed him myself. We figure he should weigh in at about 1350 at fair. That's a good estimate, he's a big steer, 1/4 shorthorn, 3/4 gelbvieh. Let's just hope he makes the grade! (We also have a carcass contest using ultrasound). SSHhhhhh, MCG is really getting attached to this one...might be a teary goodby

I bought a market lamb at a 4-H sale one year from a little neighbor girl- when she brought me the thank you card after the sale she was shedding waterfalls... I told her Dad that they could have it back and take it home- but like he said, its all part of the process she has to learn....

Needless to say I didn't invite them over for lamb chops or any of my gourmet lamb stew.....

Oops...........sorry that MCG is in trouble :( .......hope she isn't grounded for too long, I enjoy talking with her.........

*hint, hint*

So glad that Bubba is still improving, it sounds like she ought to do well with him. It's tough to get attached to these critters, though, especially when you know you're going to be saying goodbye forever in a few short months with most of them. I hope it won't be too hard on MCG...

Ty's first steer he showed was a bad actor-was mauling my five year old on a daily basis but he gutted it out and showed him-just before he sold him he asked if 'Scar' was going to get killed after the sale-I told him yes-he asked 'Can I ask whoever buys him if they'd let me shoot him'. There wasn't alot of love lost between him and that first steer.

I just must get a scanner. Our daughter had a steer and a 2-year old colt in 4-H at the same time. She was 11 years old. The steer was a polled
hereford and had such a nice dispostion. The colt was a whole different
story, however. She was to ride the colt every evening and lead the steer for excercise. Where we lived at the time (on the Powder River) we had
an arena for her to ride in and lead the steer. We caught her one day excercising the steer, only she was RIDING THE STEER and leading the
colt. It was quite a sight!!!

She loved that steer and never did like that horse. He won Grand Champion Gelding and the steer didn't do much more than get a blue
ribbon. All the kids rode him around at the fair. Everyone loved him.
Boy, did she ever cry when he was sold!!!

We did sell the colt and several years later we were at a rodeo in
Helmville, Montana and the guy who bought him was bulldogging on
him. We looked the guy up and he says to our daughter, "Would you
like to ride him?" So she did. When she got back and stepped off,
she handed him the reins and flatly said, "I still don't like him."

Anyway, I have some old pictures with her riding the steer.

Yes, you must get a scanner!!!!!!! I've tried taking pics of old pics, with my digi camera, and they just don't work. Scanner has got to be the greatest invention since the computer!

This is her 5th steer, she started showing at 9. She knows the score, she is ok with it, there have been some out of those 5 she never shed a tear for, I think there were 2 or 3 that she did. She is in DEEP trouble so it may be awhile before she gets on here...or maybe this will be the only internet place she can go...I'l have to think about it.

Well, you know best, Hanta Yo. The internet is a pretty scary place sometimes, we gotta take care of our kiddos the best we know how.

My mom always used to say that she felt like she was doing a good job of parenting, if we were mad at her a lot......lol

Hang in there!

Yeah, well im allowed on here and only here. Thats ok, i can live without everything else for now. Man, i was startin to feel the withdrawl lol. Being without Ranchers for 10 days is pretty bad! Anyway, Bubba is gettin bigger by the day. Today i had to resort back to the metal halter again, he just didn't want to lead. It's been windy and the temperature has been up and down so I think it's been messin with the animals. Instead he just wanted to run around and buck, and get scratched in his favorite spots. When I get him back on track maybe I'll record some more video on dad's camera and post it on here.
