Hillary?

Again the discussion last night went to American politics, it seems we like to ponder it more than Canadian.

We were discussing if Edwards was not running or if his affair had come out sooner would Mrs. Clinton now be the President Elect.
It seemed that some dems were torn between Obama and Clinton so they voted for Edwards, but had Edwards not been in the running they would have voted for Hillary.

How far off are we, or would it in fact have been a republican win instead if it was McCain and Clinton the final two ?

I was a Hillary supporter, but looking back at it now, I don't think she ever stood a chance against Obama in the primaries. His ground organization was remarkable. He won the caucus states because he could turn people out on the ground. She won most of the voting states. Personally, I don't think Edwards was ever much of a factor in the race.

If Hillary had been the candidate, she'd have beat McCain. He had too many obstacles in his path and just didn't run a very good campaign. He couldn't seem to decide on a theme. And he tied himself to Bush. That was a killer move. Then picking Palin was another bad move.

Once Obama started gathering steam, the public and the press picked up the historical signifance of a black president and went with it. The fact that he was an extremely intelligent, capable candidate also helped.

So basically you are saying that if Mickey Mouse ran against McCain ,Mickey would win.

Thanks for the reply fff, that is exactly what we were all thinking, a lot of people think W really dropped the ball as the leader of the most powerful country in the free world.

Well, let's all hope that Obama does his country and the western world proud. 8)

Thanks for your honesty, ff. Many of us have been trying to tell the other liberals here that the only reason that Obama won the nomination - and ultimately the presidency - is because he's black and because the media helped him. The others like to argue that fact, but to your credit, it's nice to have a liberal be honest enough to admit the truth. Thanks again for your candor.
