Simon gets 25 games; Jagr suiting up
Greetings all, Mike Casey filling in for Steve Zipay. Some big news to report:
It's official. The NHL has suspended Islanders forward Chris Simon for a minimum of 25 games for his slash to the face of Ryan Hollweg. The suspension covers the rest of this season, including playoffs.
If Simon misses fewer than 25 games between now and the end of the season, the suspension will carry over into next season.

So what do you think of the suspension? Too lenient? Too severe? Vote here.
My thoughts? It's entirely appropriate. What Simon did was dirty, scary, offensive and awful.
Simon's cheap shot ruined what had been a thrilling, passionate home-and-home series between two rivals fighting for their playoff lives. It shifted the focus of the casual fan from two great hockey games to one terrible incident.
The horrifying replay has been shown hundreds of times on various TV outlets. It amounts to a black eye for hockey, the kind that a struggling league cannot tolerate. The message from the league had to be clear, and it was: Fighting is part of hockey. Checking is part of hockey. Deliberately swinging your stick at someone's head? It's borderline criminal.
