Being a history nut- about the only channels I watch much on TV besides sports and bullriding are the history and science channels...A lot of time they are just repeats- but tonite I watched a new one on the Military Channel- Celebrities in the Service....If you get a chance I recommend it...Sure shows the difference between Hollywood of the days gone by and the Hollywood of today....

Heres a few of the celebrities that served and what I remember about their service:

Jimmy Stewart- enlisted before the war- a pilot- was an instructor in the US before flying bombers in Europe- flew missions over Berlin- stayed in Air Force Reserve retiring as a General- even flew a mission in a B-52 bombing Viet Nam...
Henry Fonda- served as a Naval Intelligence officer aboard ship- bunkmate killed during Kamikaze attack

Eddie Albert- Naval Oficer who while piloting a Higgins boat at Tarawa is credited with rescuing and saving about 150 wounded marines
Lee Marvin- served as a Marine infantry scout- was wounded on Tarawa when shot in the arse (nearly missing his spine)- spent 13 months in Hospital
Mickey Rooney- drafted- spent time in Europe in special services entertaining front line troops
Charles Durning- in the 1st wave on Omaha Beach on D-Day-- only surviving member of his squad- was wounded at the battle of the Bulge-recovered- was captured but escaped at the Malmedy Massacre-returned to fight on toward Berlin before being wounded a 3rd time and being put out of service...3 Purple Hearts
Rod Serling- Paratrooper with the 11th Airborne
Humphrey Bogart- served in WWI- then made training and promotion films for army in WWII because of his age
Johnny Carson - served in the navy- sent to south pacific at the end of the war
Ed McMahon- marine aviator WWII- also served in Korea
Ronald Reagan- was in Army Reserve at time of war- activated and made promotional movies and training films
Douglas Fairbanks- was in Naval Reserve- activated for WWII
Earnest Borgnine (McHales Navy)- was actually in the Navy when the war started- Patroled Atlantic hunting subs
Elvis Presley- drafted in 1958 for Cold war- served in tanker unit in Germany
Clark Gable
Tyrone Power

Just trying to think of any of these present "Hollywood Celebrities" that have even served, let alone in combat :???: Most are war protesters...
