Okay, this has got to be a cruel joke. Weather forecast for this weekend starting Saturday through till some time Tuesday............ cold, winds up to 80 kph, and up to 50 cms. (that's 20 inches for you Americans  ) of snow. It'll be an old-fashioned January blizzard in April! It's a front moving up from Montana clashing with a cold front coming down from the north.

Oldtimer, did you have something to do with this?

It suddenly got cold here too Shelly. I was out burning grass in my shirt sleeves yesterday, and today I woke up to a skiff of snow on the ground and wind out of the north. It's supposed to get down to -10 the next couple of nights with lots of north wind. At least there is very little snow in the forcast, but I'm still not happy about this extra shot of winter :?

Sounds like it could get nasty!!I'm glad i only have a couple of late cows left to calve, instead of just starting to calve now. That weather is the perfect recipe for scours, and lots of sick and dead calves.I pity the guy that is going to calve through it,with out a decent barn.Good luck if you are one of them!!

Ohh those old black cows will muddle through it-most of them come from a rough outfit lol. I'd rather have those cattle spread out then bunched up in a corral tramping fresh calves in the mud.

Snowing and windy here too this morning :( . Not suppost to get much snow... less than a cm, but suppost to keep the winds for the weekend :? . The snow was all melting away so nicely the other day. It was really windy yesterday morning, lost power about 2:30 am and got it back around 8 or 8:30 am... good thing for generators :)

Snowing hard and a brisk north wind south of Calgary now. Cows are spread out over a couple of miles with portable trees here and there. I'm in the house looking out the window. 20 degrees C and calm in here.

Weather service announced a winter storm warning for our area with strong winds, drifting and blowing snow, 18-20 inches on the plains and possibly 3 FEET in the mountains, possible locally power outages and warning livestock producers to be prepared and watch out for weak or young livestock. Starts at 6am Saturday and lasts til Sunday 6pm.

Now wouldn't it be funny after all of this nothing happens? I've seen it happen before.
If it does happen we are ready.

One of my hay haulers just phoned he's heading up from Shelley's country with a load so we can get some bales placed before the storm hits. Not sure whjat exactly is coming but something sure is lol.

It doesn't matter if them critters are black, red, yellow, pink, purple, or green with red polka dots. If what they say is coming really does show up, it'll be hard on those newborn calves. And where they're feeding those cows, there is absolutely no protection from the snow and wind at all.

Minus 22 celcius, with ice crystals on a north breeze this morning. There is even snow in Vancouver. Luckily only one calf born last night, good mum, everything looked after itself. She even dried it's ears off and they're not frozen. :D

Snow on the ground here this morning, good stiff wind from the north. They say what we got last night was just a teaser, the worst is still to come.

Say, NR, where you getting the hay from? Bales are getting pretty scarce around here. We could've sold a whole lot more if we would've had the bales.

We got about .2 of rain last night-- they're predicting more this afternoon along with thunderstorms- which is supposed to turn to snow by tomorrow  ...Sounds like the worst part of the snow/cold/blizzard part will stay west of us- but we'll have lows back in the teens- and chances of snow all during the week...

If you use Murphy's law-We'll probably get a blizzard since we moved pairs out to pasture yesterday....Altho they are in the pasture where they can get in around the buildings/trees for protection...Kept the ones that haven't calved down on the river, so I can watch them/get them in close if it does turn real nasty...

I guess I'm getting too impatient for these last ones to calve-as I'm only 35 days into calving and they have been coming real good (75% in first cycle)...Looks like only a few that will piddle along into May...

It's been snowing here since yesterday morning at 7:30 am. We have already gotten 15 cm and another 20 are expected overnight   .

This crap is in the forecast for another week and it is COLD -13 now and windy, low of -17 tonight but will feel like -25 with the wind which has been howling since yesterday.

I can't believe we are getting this we will be late getting in our fields again this year. How the hell is one expected to make a go at this when everything is always against you.

Sorry, I am just in a [email protected] mood as I am so terribly worried about the babies. :(

Stay warm and dry everyone, and may all your babies be safe.

I do to,i'm sure he is not looking forward to that weather coming. When that storm hits he will probably be calving hard, good thing he has all that help to help him out.I noticed the other night they were shipping broilers out of one of there barns,i guess if things got really bad he could put a lot of pairs in one of those barns.

I'd dump a few semiloads of straw bales on end and let them get onm the downwind sides. I can pretty much garantee no cows will be getting in the broiler barns. He has some pasture with some pretty good shelter in it or he did have at one time.
