But it doesn't surprise me...at that time Bush was pandering heavily to the religious right...and my having been brought up in, and living in the Bible belt as a cast aside Methodist...who had differing opinions...well...I'm just sayin'...

Incredibly, President George W. Bush told French President Jacques Chirac in early 2003 that Iraq must be invaded to thwart Gog and Magog, the Bible's satanic agents of the Apocalypse.

Honest. This isn't a joke. The president of the United States, in a top-secret phone call to a major European ally, asked for French troops to join American soldiers in attacking Iraq as a mission from God.

Now out of office, Chirac recounts that the American leader appealed to their "common faith" (Christianity) and told him:

"Gog and Magog are at work in the Middle East. ... The biblical prophecies are being fulfilled. ... This confrontation is willed by God, who wants to use this conflict to erase his people's enemies before a New Age begins."

I thought by now some of the rightwingernut bible thumpers on here would have jumped on this and explained to us folks that they look down on as less Holier than thou- and explained your revelations of Bushs "mission from God" in conducting this "Holy War"....

Recently, GQ magazine revealed that former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld attached warlike Bible verses and Iraq battle photos to war reports he hand-delivered to Bush. One declared: "Put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground."

I remember when the first reports of this came out as Congressmen read over released reports- in some Congressional Hearings- and it raised eyebrows on some of the staunchest Republican lawmakers when they finally figured out what Rummy's chickenscratching meant...
Might be a reason so many Repubs were in the gathering calling for him being replaced...
Too bad they couldn't have replaced GW at the same time

It's awkward to say openly, but now-departed President Bush is a religious crackpot, an ex-drunk of small intellect who "got saved." He never should have been entrusted with power to start wars.

Ain't awkward to say- I've been saying it for the past 4 years....

Saying what Alice?? Speak up...."cast aside methodist"?? Methodist don't do that..Methodist are some of the most liberal folks in the south/southwest, second only to the Episcopalians. Never heard of a castaway Methodist. Maybe you just staggered away from "God" and now the thought of someday facing him for judgement just scares the hell out of you.

Ya know, I've made it a point to not respond to any of your jabs at me...and the one telling me to go back to working the night shift at the chicken ranch was powerfully tempting to.

However, I will not let a jab at my religion and my faith go by. By castaway Methodist, I am saying that in this Baptist Bible belt, Methodists, who are by and large liberals, have been castaway and looked upon as not quite Christian. Because Methodists believe in, and promote, tolerance, and because we questioned the war in Iraq, we were considered traitors during that miserable 8 years.

Now you can take that for whatever you consider it's worth, and shove it. I don't care...

Hmmm maybe you need to go to the REAL SOUTH.....IN NC Methodists are NOT looked down at nor are they "castasided" They do wonderful work with the children of ALL religions. If a church is working with children and trying to get activities for the kids and the church is small the Bigger Methodists Churches step in and fund the work. There are countless Missions they go on and NOT just Methodsists get the benifits.
In 6 different areas there are 4 different churchsin each area who join together to celebrate Easter and Christmas by going to each of the churches for one service. This was 4 years ago but it had been going on for over 8 years and I know for a fact it still is happening.
Next time you want to slam southern religions check your facts.

Yep-- poor old Sage- you have to repost it or re-explain it 3 times so she can (maybe) figure out the point (most keep flying over her head  )---which possibly explains why she is lead around so easily by the radical right extremist fearmonger and hatemonger spokesmen- selling her on every conspiracy that comes down the line... And thats the type folks they cater to...

But what gets me is she has sanctimoniously appointed herself as the "holier than thou" chastiser of namecalling and personal attacks on this website--BUT then usually leads the bunch in doing it....

I actually don't think Sage is a name caller so I disagree. But she does get easily stirred up and then goes on an incoherent and wild rant. My advice to her is to sit on her fingers and control the urge to hold forth on topics she doesn't know much about.

Witness her rant on brownshirts which showed just how idiotic she can be.

GENOCIDE. Do you know what that is Sage?

THROWING BABIES IN OVENS.

SHOOTING HUNDREDS OF INNOCENT PEOPLE WHO HAVE JUST DUG THEIR OWN MASS GRAVE?

EXPERIMENTING ON HUMAN BEINGS IN WAYS YOU CANNOT IMAGINE THEY ARE SO FOUL?

Lady - get a clue about what the Nazis did before you run around talking about things you are abysmally ignorant of.

Is that any worse than throwing them in the back room to die?

I KNOW what they did ......WHat your ignoring is HOW they got the POWER to do what they did.
Dear GOD look to the time BEFORE they were killing and see what the climate was in Germany. The holocaust started LONG before the first person was taken to jail......
Once the children were telling on their parents and people being taken to jail it was too late.....Then the real atrocity started. I have a very clear picture of what was done and why. I also see where it could have been STOPPED but people didnt speak OUT.
