I don’t know how many of you have ever had the opportunity to have a pet horn toad, but they are the sweetest little creatures, despite their rather fearsome appearance. I found this one sunning himself on a pile of petrified wood I left along the side of the dirt road into our ranch while I was taking my early morning meander. Isn't he cute?

We caught and played with horny toads when we were kids, they were everywhere in West Texas...they looked similar to that one, only ours had more spikes(dunno if that's the right word) and they had horns on their heads. That one doesn't have horns? is it a baby?

here's a link to the Texas horned Lizard.

We don't have em here in East Texas, Dad n law grew up here and said they used to have
em, but since the fire ants there aint none left. Guess the fire ants do them like they do
the quail...soon as the egg starts to hatch, they kill them.

Strange enough, I do remember having them when I was growing up. We also had Scorpions and Tarantulas over here....but, not anymore. I can remember being scared of going to bed cuz of them spiders and scorpions...

Guess not all fire ants are bad....but now that they arent as plentiful, we are getting ticks again over here. I could do without all them creatures...hate ticks, hate frogs, hate snakes ..lol and really dont like big ole (spiders) Tarantulas.

Plenty of scorpions still here, and have seen a few Tarantulas.

Young deer (babies) are especially at danger as they will lie motionless and allow fire ants to
cover them and often get blinded by the ants when they sting and bite off pieces near their eyes,
nose, navel and mouth.
