Horse Shows in Heaven

Horse Shows in Heaven

One day in heaven, Saint Peter, Saint Paul and Saint John were
standing around near the horse paddocks watching the horses frolic.
"I am certainly bored," stated John.
"Me too," Paul chimed in.
Peter stood and watched the horses. "I know!" Peter began. "Why
don't we have a horse show?" Paul and John thought that the idea was
great except for one small detail that Paul pointed out.

"Who are we to compete against, Peter?" Paul asked.
The trio pondered a moment when Peter realized the answer. "We will
call up Satan and invite him to the horse show. I mean, we have all
of the finest horses here in heaven, all of the World and National
Champions are here. His stable is full of the spoiled, difficult and
mean horses. We are certain to win at the show!"

And so the trio called up Satan on the Other Realm communication
lines and invited him to their horse show. Satan laughed and asked
why they would want to be humiliated like that, because he would
certainly beat them. Peter, Paul and John did not understand. "What
do you mean Satan?" Peter asked. "We have all of the National and
World Champion horses in our stable in heaven. How could you
possibly beat us?"

Satan paused a moment and then laughed. "Have you forgotten so soon
gentlemen? I have all the judges!"

Actually I do judge a few horse and livestock shows, and sadly know how true this sometimes is

Unfortunately, this seems pertinent to the issue in the photo contest as well.

Good joke OT...I'll have to pass that on to my more serious horse judge buddies.

Cheers---

Thanks OT.
I have been bummed out this last week because I wanted to take some of my horses into the open horse show... And I was doing lots of riding thinking I would have a shot at the ranch horse pleasure. But do to factors out of my control I didn't go in... Yeah sure I could of, but just didn't have my horses ready. And so I stayed home. Oh well maybe next year....

Sooooo, why do people show cattle and horses then? :???:

The only real compition is with yourself.
There's only one purple JB . I play to win. I am not competing against myself. If a bull isn't good enough to win a show, why go? There's no acomplishment in losing. If I enjoied showing , it might be different. I know some fellas who are just happy to be at the show. I sure can't win them all or even most of them but if I have an animal that isn't ready or isnt' good enough to win I stay at the house.

Me too Red Robin.
If I'm only competing with myself there is no reason to even go to town.. Hell why even make an effort.
I may not win, But I'm damn sure going to keep everyone else honest..

When greg and I started raising paints we went to a couple horse shows, was seriously thinking about doing some showing, and getting our name out there....didn't happen we were appalled by the politics that seemed to be involved in the showing business,at least here in Canada. Do you guys see any of that?

I have been very fortunate in the open shows to have really good judges. Some even give mini clinics... Now F-H really sucks... I've seen my kids really get taken to the cleaners...
You learn to know what certain judges are looking for. Each are differant.
I stopped at Dr. Butlers for some vaccine and he asked if I had a minute to look at his horses.... Oh man I thought I had died and gone to heaven. What beautiful horses. He had the horse he had won at Rapid and Denver and Omaha. Impressive of a horse.....
Anyway, I asked him if he ever got nervouse showing his horses with all the big name show hands and he said: " NO!. I maybe out shown, but never out horsed." He is so right.... If you have a really good horse in what ever you are doing the horse will catch the judge's eye and the judge will keep coming back to you....... Now in my case..... Your horse is soooooo butt ugly the judge can't help but not look and wonder!!!!

Years and years ago, a very good friend of ours took us to a popular halter horse showman's place. He showed us a young filly that had won the Silver Chalice Futurity. She was an Impressive daughter, and remember, this was years and years ago.

Our friend says, "How does she ride?"

The owner said, "Oh, you don't RIDE them."
To which our friend replied, "You are sure doing the QH industry a
great favor raising horses that you can't ride."

I thought he had a lot of guts to say that. I knew nothing about Impressive at the time. Now the Impressive line is diluted enough
that there are some good horses being ridden in various events.

But if they'll win at something, the rest doesn't matter...

The only two people really happy at a cattle show are the judge and the guy who won. It's just one persons opinion on one day most of it so far removed from being relevant to the real cattle business-that winning or losing is no big deal. I've seen kids go from last at regional show to first at district. The showring is more an exercise in networking and sales than it is in identifying superior individuals-you know the ones that make ranchers money. It's part of 4H so the kids participate but they sure don't lose much sleep if some purebred guy with twenty cows puts them in last or first for that matter. My old boss-put it best-he said putting hairspray on a cow-turns my stomach lol.
