Horses and Barb wire just don't mix!

Help Support Ranchers.net:

Take the advice of horsedoc and listen to your vet. Time and patience are what you need. Your horse needs daily care. In the past I have had some really bad cuts on horses and in every case when I listened to my vet they healed with care and time. 15 minutes of hard cold water therapy daily does wonders for proud flesh. Listen to your vet. If you don't and jump from one "miracle cure" to another why bother with the vet at all.

Antiseptic Wash
1 part Carbolic Acid to 10 parts Glycerin
Can be generally washed with carbolic, castile, or medical soap and hot/warm water
Should Proud Flesh appear treat with Burnt Alum, Powered Bluestone etc.
Wounds of Tendons require Professional Attendance.

I keep Glycerin on wounds for quite sometime – keeps them soft

Hint: #1
Saddle Soap Glycerin Bars can be melted down to make liquid glycerin and you can cut it many many times and put it in a spray bottle to do your saddles.

Some of the first things I teach a horse
Hint: #2
Teaching your horses to Hobble Front and Back - this may help prevent this

Hint: #3
Electric Fence helps teach a horse about wire – if my horses see a wire in the grass they slide to a stop
