House Democrats say GOP wants too many days off

WASHINGTON — The House will be in session less than one out of every three days next year, a slight decline from past years.

House Republicans say they are running the place more efficiently and lawmakers need the time to be with constituents in an election year. Democrats say that's too few days on the job during an economic crisis.

The tentative schedule for the House in 2012 allows just six voting days in January. House members would take off almost all of August and most of October as they campaign ahead of Election Day, Nov. 6.

The 109 days scheduled for work in Washington next year compares to 119 days the House was in session in 2008, the last presidential election year.

more proof the republicans do nothing congress, insists on more of doing nothing, bringing the country to it's knees, and then blaming it on President Obama. the republicans think that more days off, the less risk of having to do any work to fix America. face it folks, the republicans don't want to fix America, they want to protect the rich. ...

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. Term Limits - 12 years max, some possible options are below.

A. Two Six-year Senate terms

B. Six Two-year House terms

C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension

Members of Congress receive a salary while in office, that salary ends when they leave office.

3. Congress members (past, present & future) are to participate in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately.

All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with all Americans.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Members of Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present members of Congress are void effective 1/1/12.

The American people did not make the contract members of Congress enjoy, Congress made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.

The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

Its sad that our national legislators- Congress- put in less days than many state legislators do....And lately 90% of their time in session is being used to play politics- and not solving the problems....
Add into the Congressional Reform Act- that Congressmen only get paid for the days that Congress is in session...That is the way many state legislatures work...

sounds like the "obama work schedule"

he started his campaign even before the Republicans are suggested they get time to campaign
