I hope there are some on Ranchers who get the same thrill I do when they see 124 head of mustangs strung out for ever, kicking up dust as they head up the country on a high trot.
We had found only five head after driving eight miles. I was thinking we were going to go home with few pictures. We had never found much at Simpson Spring in the past, but I figured we had to check it out while we were close by.
I noticed dust and mustangs coming over a ridge from the south.
Something had spooked them and they came on a high lope.
I was in a panic trying to get the who bunch in the viewfinder, I just couldn't do it. Fifty or sixty head were on the west of us with the sun in my view finder, the others were on the east strung out for half a mile or more. The band split and went on both sides of the corral we were hiding in.
I mentioned to one of my friends that I wished I had the words to describe what we had just seen,,, he said there are no words.
I get my first look today of the paint mares new baby.
The Pony Express Station and camp ground is in the background.
The first warning,,,,
The second warning was a little more forceful.
This old boy is always around, but causes no trouble.
Due to the range fires, it wasn't a good day for good pictures, but I had been locked up too long, it was time to "get out of Dodge."
I feel bad that those of you who have a real appreciation for mustangs, have only some pictures to look at, there ain't nothing like the real thing.
