The overall freedom ranking is a combination of personal and economic freedoms.
How the Rankings Are Calculated

We score all 50 states on over 200 policies encompassing fiscal policy, regulatory policy, and personal freedom. We weight public policies according to the estimated costs that government restrictions on freedom impose on their victims.

1.-North Dakota
2. South Dakota
12. Montana
36.Wyoming

All states that adjoin. All red states. Interesting how far apart they are.
The one that surprises me the most is how low Wyoming is compared to
the other 3. Wonder why that?

I'm surprised that Colorado is a red state.

The blue states.........need to find out what the red states are doing differently...

Democratic presidential candidates have won in Colorado only twice in 40 years: Barack Obama in 2008 and Bill Clinton in 1992.

However, demographic changes in the state's population in the 21st century have caused Colorado to become a bona fide electoral swing state, one that could easily veer either Democratic or Republican in presidential elections.

And do you really think those running the blue states are going to listen to anything a red state has to say? :)

They got the rankings they got as they tax people so they can BUY VOTES from those they want to control. They could care less about ratings as long as they keep CONTROL

What scares me is when those living in blue states move to a red state because they can't handle the regulations and taxes of the blue state and as soon as they get settled they start to change the red State to mimic where they left. :x Kind of like when somebody moves from a foreign DANGEROUS HATE FILLED country and instead of trying to fit into their new surroundings and live by the new country's rules and laws, they keep to themselves and blame the new country for their isolation and call everyone bigots for not allowing them to practice the rules that sent them running from their old country. I just wish those wanting to CHANGE the place they move to into what they ran from would just do everyone a big favor and stay put. :x

BTW you can blame Oldtimer's support of the Dems in Montana for their 12 place ranking.

well said.. living in the only conservative county in a solidly blue state I see the results and how they are destroying what little freedom is left ...

17. Delaware+9 ------- blue state

the first blue state on the list..

and if you could lope off the top bit which includes the Wilmington metropolitan areas.. (south philly) it would turn bright red..

as with many of the states.. it isn't the vast majority of the population, but the city...

if we could consolidate the city into one "utopia" and let them go it alone we could be one big "red" country...

BTW... who decided the conservatives were red.. and the commie liberals were blue?...

I would love to see how these are figured.

Take Colorado for example, how are they downgraded on all their giun control restrictions. Then do they gain the same amount for legalizing marijuana.

If you take a Constitutional right it is more important than if you are allowed to have an Occupy protest....need some answeres
