How much should I ask?

I've been thinking about trying to sell a few framed photos in some of the gift shops in town. I just got these put together and I'm not sure what to ask for them. I got the frames 50% off but still have around $22 a piece into them with the glass, matting and copying cost. I'm guessing the gift shops will want around 10-15%. The photos are 8x10. I have several photos I'd like to try to sell and If I could get a good source for frames, glass and matting I thought about trying to sell over e-bay. What do you think I should ask for them?

Here's a sample.

Nice pictures, Ned. Ask as much as you can get. :p

It might be just me, but it seems like the matt is overpowering
the pictures, or perhaps it is that they are too much one color. :???:

Our PB boarder collie had pups out of a neighbors PB Boarder and we decided to sell them. Couldn't get a bite at $25., one sold for $50, a couple sold when we went to $100 and it was easiest to sell at $150. Price them at a price they are worth and don't undervalue them. Photo art like that here in a gallery would start at $200 and go up as you become popular or dead.

I see if Tam will respond to you later. She does her own framing and matting. That save tons of money. In some cases she would use two mattes to give it a deep look . I would think if you take your cast and double it should bring you close to a retail price. Depends on what the shop that sells it wants.

They look pretty nice. :D

Give each pic a title, sign them and date them.

Make it understated and put it in the lower right corner

Do it in your own hand - do not print it or stamp it.

Those pics will sell in some areas and they will all go for more than a couple hundred unless I miss my guess.

That's probably as good of advice as I can get :D. Now if I only knew how much that was. :? I've seen some pretty bad pictures in town with some awfully high price tags but I'm not sure if they ever sell any of them.

I see what your saying. Maybe they could be double matted? I'm 100% new to all this and appreciate your input.

Heck you should have said something - I would have been over to take one at 25 bucks - might even have taken two

It was a couple of years ago. I just wanted to point out that people want value and are willing to pay for it and if they don't know what value is, you need to help them with your pricing. I wish I had one of those pups today too.

Try a double matt and see what you think. It will add to the cost,
but I think it will add to the appeal as well.

JUst to prove we are all different and that beauty is in the eye of the beholder - I like them as is.

Cheers

Ned Jr., I have a friend who love to golf. He also loves photography and is pretty good at it as a hobby. He goes around to golf courses and takes pictures of different holes and greens. Then he approaches the course and it is amazing how much they pay to hang his photos inthe clubhouse, restraunt, ect.. Like $500 bucks and up!

I think your photos are excellent and you'd have a great chance selling them for $75 to $100 bucks. Market them to the right folks and you could triple that. The flea market crowd pays different than the ski-resort bunch. With the 175 semen sales and the budding framed art career, soon you'll be hiring the ranch work done! :D

Framing can make or break a picture. I do like the pictures alot and believe they would sell nicely. But I do have to agree with FH the mat seems to be a bit over powering. I like the mat on the first one but would try keeping the mat the same depth all the way around the picture. The second one I would try a double mat of two tones of tans verses the gray single layer. Try using a couple shades darker color as the under mat as it tends to pull your eyes into the picture and sets off the picture without distracting. Tan will also pull the tan color of the barn board. Try a few different colors on the same picture and you will be amazed at the difference in the picture itself. BMR is right about cutting your own mats it save a bunch. Here is where I order mat board from most of the time

http://www.dickblick.com/products/crescent-regular-surface-matboard-all-colors-20-x-32/.

If you try a double mat post the two so we can see the difference.

As far as price around $100 to start with for an 8x10 and as the interest grows so does the price. Good Luck

That sounds awfully good but highly unlikely. :D
H that is a great idea. I am all ready too, golf lots, take lots of photo's and already hire much of the work done. Ned if you want some of H's action up here I would be happy to take you golfing when you come up. :)

Thanks to everyone for all the good advice. It's nice to feel they'll have some value. I asked my wife if she thought they'd sell at $150 and she said "would you pay that much for them"? I told her that was besides the point. I think I may try $100.

Tam thanks for the link to the web-site. I think I'll take your advice and try different some colors and double matting. It may take me awhile to get it all put together.

I've never went golfing in my life. But it might be fun. :D
