I have a simple program that you can put on your computer to help you calculate rations. I use requirements suggested by the University of Nebraska as a basis. Once you set the requirements plug in the feed values and lbs fed it tells you if you are balanced and it calculates it per trimester. If you are interested I'll try to send it in an PM or email.

When it gets below -40 and we feed all the cows can eat, they are not big enough to consume any more than 40 to 45 lbs a day. They are gaining weight now on 30 to 33 lbs. We mix Bovatec in our mineral as a coccidiostat and it works well. Now that we have a good hay base I doubt we will ever purchase supplemental feed for the cow herd again. Our hay runs between 7 and 12% protein, we feed various quantities of each quality to make sure they are getting 2 lbs plus protein and call it good
