Thanks for your input, everyone! I really appreciate it, and if Al was feeling better this morning, I know he'd add his thanks in, too. Really, this is his first time doing this, and we're pretty much lost on what you feed, etc. Mostly we were doing the cake, because she likes it and eats it well. Since our County Agent lost his assistant, you never can find him in the office, so asking him wasn't an option.
I'll look into getting some soybeans for her, and I've been thinking that maybe we should switch her over to maybe a sweet feed? The milk cow is doing well on it, and there never was a problem getting her to eat it at all. Or, we do keep rolled barley on hand for the horses, so it wouldn't be any problem to get her started on that.
When he was taking Tillie's mama, there was never a choice of taking her to the fair, she just is so anti-social with anyone she doesn't know, that someone would have gotten hurt by her, and we sure don't need a lawsuit to contend with, on top of everything else.
I was so pleased when Tillie took more after her dad in temperament (I really can't believe I'm saying that about a Brangus........ ) and I know Al is looking forward to taking her. I just really want him to do as well as he can with her......she's coming along excellently, but I was a little concerned about the belly she's gotten lately.
The gal that won the Heifer class, the first year Al was in the Cattle Breeding project, had a heifer so fat she waddled when she walked......but the other one in there was so thin that her ribs literally stuck out. Blondie would have beat either of them with no trouble at all, but..................there again, they had the "show mentality" that she just doesn't have. She does great, out there............but get her confined and strange stuff going on around her, like you get at a fair, she just goes nuts.
Again, thanks for all your ideas! I knew ya'll would come through for us!
