...will the extension of the ' tax cuts' be paid for? The original ones were not even set to be paid for, now you've added 2 more yrs worth.

I thought the Rep. victory was about REDUCING the US deficit NOT making it larger?

With a 2 yr extension, this just pushes it down the road to land in the middle of the next election cycle which means NOTHING will be done again!!

Come Reps & Conservatives.....where is the debt reduction?

It's the spending that needs to be paid for, not future tax increases.

These continued tax rates are expected to create or save 2 million jobs. Think of the tax revenue on those 2 million jobs.

Reduce spending by about 4%/year and in about 10 years you would have a balanced budget.

No tax increases needed.

and then keep spending at about 19% of GDP, which will be about equal to tax revenue.

Voila, a balanced budget.

Let's see Small business owners use their (NOT THE GOVERNMENTS) money to hire a person and what happens.
one less on unemployment = less money going out of government coffers, AND one more working tax payer = more money coming into the government coffers. Mulitply this by a couple million and see what you get JINGY.

Where debt reduction comes from is CUTTING GOVERNMENT SPENDING!!!!!!!!

That is the problem with you libs to you bigger government is the answer when in fact Big Government is the PROBLEM, always has been and always will be.

It wasn't money the government had. So you are saying since they don't get additional money that it has to be paid for? It isn't an income problem for them it is a spending problem.

This is good, NOW we have a liberal all worried about debt reduction. My god lady haven't you been listening to the conservatives and what they have been advocating for ages.

in the world of liberals.. they count money before it is earned..

Don't Count Your Chickens Before They Hatch

This saying occurs in the fable "The Milkmaid and Her Pail." Patty, a farmer's liberal daughter, is daydreaming as she walks to town with a pail of milk balanced on her head. Her thoughts: "The milk in this pail will provide me with cream, which I will make into butter, which I will sell in the market, and buy a dozen eggs, which will hatch into chickens, which will lay more eggs, and soon I shall have a large poultry yard. I'll sell some of the fowls and buy myself a handsome new gown and go to the fair, and when the young fellows try to make love to me, I'll toss my head and pass them by." At that moment, Patty tossed her head and lost the pailful of milk. Her mother admonished, "Do not count your chickens before they are hatched."

in the story.. she wants to buy a gown.. so the young men will look at her so she can ignore them...

in reality she could have been the first true liberal politician.. had she not planned to work for her money..

but then liberal politicians did evolve over time.. now they just spend the money so the voters will vote for them, so they can ignore them...

and to top it off they whine because, we won't work harder and give them more to spend...

the lesson form 2010... CUT spending of stupid things, wasteful and ineffective inefficient government programs..

"the first lesson of economics is scarcity: there is never enough of anything to fully satisfy all those who want it. The first lesson of politics is to disregard the first lesson of economics."

Thomas Sowell

"Over that long span of time, there have been many sharp cuts in tax rates under Presidents Calvin Coolidge, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. ... [C]uts in tax rates do not mean cuts in tax revenues. In all four of these administrations, of both parties, so-called "tax cuts for the rich" led to increased tax revenues - with people earning high incomes paying not only a larger sum total of tax revenues, but even a higher proportion of all tax revenues. ... [T]hese tax-rate reductions spurred economic activity, which we definitely need today."[2] -
Thomas Sowell

BTW Jingy what makes you think Obama had any plans to use the money collected by the expiring tax cuts to pay down debt? According to what I heard he had plans on where he could spend the money and it wasn't on debt reduction.

Take my ranch for example. I can't make my income go up, but I sure can cut my costs. The conservative thought process is to cut government spending and let the worker (no matter what your income is) keep their money so it can then be spent and spread throughout the economy.

Everytime I spend my money someone else is getting it and then they spend it and income tax gets some of it and the ball keeps rolling down hill and the government taxes it over and over. Now if you take all the money out of criculation that you want to tax people on, the government will take it and then it ends.

I don't mind paying taxes, in fact I am actually proud to, but when the government spends it so foolishly, I get quite frustrated.

Now, let me ask you, why does the rich need to be punished by getting taxed harder just because they have been successful?

if all men in America are believed to be created equal(Declaration of independance)- shouldn't we be taxed equal?

isn't it a violation of the 10th Commandment (don't covet anothers property) to have graduated income tax?

and the death tax- the Bible says " a good man leaves an inheritance for his childrens children" -- if the kids have to sell it (property) to pay the taxes we weren't very good men to just stand by and let that happen are we?

If you double the taxes, they'll spend it with no concern for the deficit. Just take a look at SSI and the way they have spent it over the years.

Each nuke unit in America has paid 10 million a year for a repository going all the way back to the 70's. Hillary's exact words on building the repository were, "Where are we going to get the money for that?" What did they do with the billions received?

Tax cuts work. Lay off some government people who are doing absolutely nothing each day of their lives. Check out the videos of these dead beats and ask yourself would you pay them their salaries to work for you?

The current batch of Republicans care little about debt reduction-- they just use that as a smokescreen cover to the fact they want control/more control of the earmark/pork process...It won't change a bit with either party as long as we have lobbyiest money controlling elections and D.C.

American Sauce: What else is in the MegaTaxDeal?
By: Host of CNN's American Sauce Lisa Desjardins

(CNN) - The U.S. Senate voted Monday to move forward with a tax deal that would extend Bush-era tax cuts. If it becomes law, it would cost more than:
· The Iraq and Afghanistan Wars from 2001-2008 ($752 Billion according to CBO)
· The stimulus bill ($787 Billion over ten years, from CBO)
· The entire domestic output of South Korea last year ($832 Billion says the World Bank)

The Congressional megadeal on taxes and unemployment is slated to add some $857 Billion to the US debt. Of course, it also keeps billions in Americans' pockets.

Keep reading for a look at what else is in this tax deal, by size.

The bill itself is just 72 pages long and will be numbered H.R. 4853. But in those 72 pages are a litany of tax cut and policy extensions that affect nearly every American in multiple ways. Here are some of the highlights, as estimated by the Joint Committee on Taxation last Thursday:

* Income Tax Extensions through 2012: $545 Billion
-Bush Tax Cuts, extend through: $408 Billion
-Alternative Minimum Tax protection: $137 Billion

* New Payroll Tax Cut for 2011: $111 Billion

* Business, Investment and Other Tax Extensions: $77.2 Billion
Includes:
– Depreciation and other business incentives, through 2012: $22 Billion
– Research and experimentation tax credit, through 2011: $13.3 Billion
– State and local sales tax deduction, through 2011: $5.5 Billion
– Ethanol tax credit extension, through 2011: $4.8 Billion
– Restaurant and retail tax credit for capital improvement, through 2011: $3.6 Billion
– Biodiesel and renewable diesel tax credit, through 2011: $2 Billion
– Tuition tax deduction, through 2011: $1.2 Billion
– Railroad track maintenance tax credit, through 2011: $330 Million
– Rum excise tax change, to increase the tax floor on rum from Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands:
$262 Million
– Washington DC investment tax credit, through 2011: $138 Million
– NASCAR and other race tracks, credit for capital improvement. Through 2011: $36 Million
– Mine rescue team training credit, extend through 2011: $5 Million

* Estate Tax Change/Cut for 2011: $68 Billion

* Unemployment Extension for 2011: $57 Billion (NOTE: this estimate is from the Congressional Budget Office)

I have never in my life seen a poor man create a job of any kind. I have, however, seen folks with dough start up new businesses and hire folks to work who otherwise wouldn't have gotten a PAYCHECK. A welfare check, yes...but not an honest-to-God paycheck, of which taxes were withheld, of course. I don't think the welfare-ites have any withholding.

You tax the folks with money to the point of no return, those folks will leave and go somewhere where they won't get raped by the taxman. Write it down. The libtards are so blinded by the forest that they fail to see the trees. Just because a person has achieved a great deal of success doesn't mean he should have to give up the majority of his hard earned money to welfare queens who have 4 children sired by four different men.

The only way to get out of debt is to quit spending. By raising taxes, the people in power just have that much more to spend, and they sure will find a way to do it. I am surprised you can't seem to grasp the concept, Oldtimer. :?

I don't see the other side of the ledger in this article, did I miss it?

I guess the Dems. increased spending with the expectation that they would also raise taxes, eh?

They counted their chickens, before.....

If they cut spending by the same $857 Billion, what happens then?

This "stimulus package" is expected to save or create more than 2 Million jobs more than the last stimulus package. How much additional tax revenue will that generate?

but you are correct OT, this batch of Republicans should not have agreed to obama's "add-ons". they should have waited to until the new year, when a new batch will be showing up. But hey, it will help to get even more Tea Party candidates voted in in 2012.

Like I posted previously, cut spending by 4% per year for 10 years, and count on an expected tax revenue of 19% of GDP, you will have a balanced budget.

Raising taxes, does not create additional tax revenue. Revenue stays constant at, or about, 19% of GDP.

Liberals like to accuse Repubs. of not having "respect for science", but when it comes to the science of economics, they are "deniers".

Maybe some Conservatism might work. It hasn't been tried in the last 100 years.
