(CNN) - California Republican gubernatorial nominee Meg Whitman accused Democratic opponent Jerry Brown of orchestrating the scandal that erupted this week over her former housekeeper, Nicky Diaz-Santillan, in a debate Saturday night.
"Jerry, you know you should be ashamed, you and your surrogates," Whitman said. "You put it out here and you should be ashamed for sacrificing Nicky Diaz on the altar of your political ambitions."
In response, Brown said Whitman was avoiding responsibility for hiring an undocumented worker.
"You have blamed her, blamed me, blamed the left, blamed the unions. But you don't take accountability," Brown said.
The candidates sparred over the economy, jobs and immigration, a key issue in the border state.
Brown criticized Whitman's stance that employers should be held accountable for hiring illegal immigrants and brought the debate back to the recent controversy over her onetime housekeeper.
"Ms. Whitman obviously didn't crack down on herself," Brown said. "That is a question of talking out of both sides of her mouth."

And she still refuses to take responsibility and wants to blame everyone else.....![]()

"Ms. Whitman obviously didn't crack down on herself," Brown said. "That is a question of talking out of both sides of her mouth."
Whitman provided legal forms that Santillan signed at the time of employment. She even provided a copy of the Social Security card given to her by Santillan. In response, Brown said Whitman was avoiding responsibility for hiring an undocumented worker.
Meg Whitman hired the illegal alien employee- and kept her employed for 9 years- 6 years after she had even received notification that would have thrown up red flags of the persons legality in the normal persons mind
Allred produced a copy of the letter Thursday that she says shows Whitman's husband, Dr. Griffith Harsh, partially filled it out.
Dr. Griffith Harsh — released a statement — saying he didn't recall the letter but it is possible he wrote the note on it.
"At bottom of letter, "Dr. Harsh has written: 'Nicky, please check this. Thanks,'" Allred said, adding that the housekeeper recognized the handwriting as belonging to Whitman's husband.
The housekeeper said she was told to "check on this,"
According to the Social Security Administration's website, such letters first go to the employee, and then are sent to an employer about two weeks later — making it plausible that Diaz Santillan could have been on the lookout for it.
The campaign released employment applications filled out when the former housekeeper was hired in 2000, including a copy of a Social Security card and a California driver's license, that indicated the woman was a legal resident. Whitman's campaign has said Diaz Santillan admitted to using her sister's documents when she applied for the $23–an–hour job.
From Agency spokesman Mark Lassiter
"An employer with one or two employees in 2003 to 2006 would not have gotten an employer letter," Lassiter said.

loomixguy said:Why does Whitman get all the blame or shoulder all the guilt, Short timer? Does not Santillan deserve equal treatment under the law? Santillan was the one who used forged/improper documents, NOT Whitman. I imagine folks who are quite wealthy are used to telling their employees to handle what may first appear to be mundane things, as they have enough on their plate as it is.
The way Short timer (who no doubt somewhere along the line took an oath to protect and uphold the Constitution of the United Estates), is defending an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT/ALIEN, who has admitted to be here ILLEGALLY, you'd think Santillan was splitting that $23/hour with him.

Union official at Swift & Co. sentenced to prison for harboring illegal aliens
DES MOINES, Iowa - An official with the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union was sentenced Friday to a year and a day in federal prison for harboring illegal aliens employed at the Swift & Company processing plant in Marshalltown, Iowa. This sentencing resulted from an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that also included the December 2006 arrests of 1,297 illegal aliens employed at Swift plants in six states.
Braulio Pereyra-Gabino was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ronald E. Longstaff, who also ordered him to pay a $2,000 fine. Pereya-Gabino was convicted May 8 by a federal jury. During the trial prosecutors demonstrated that Pereya-Gabino concealed illegal aliens, and shielded them from detection in a building at the Swift & Company plant at 402 North 10th Ave. in Marshalltown, Iowa.
"This sentence sends a clear message that criminal charges and prison time are very real consequences of facilitating the employment of illegal aliens," said Estela Biesemeyer, resident agent in charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Des Moines. "Working in partnership with the U.S. Attorney's Office, ICE has made it a priority to pursue criminal charges against those who engage in identity theft, and also those who allow such fraud to flourish in the workplace."
Pereyra-Gabino was arrested July 10, 2007, along with Chris Lamb, a human resources employee, in Marshalltown. Lamb, a 17-year Swift employee, was also charged with harboring illegal aliens. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to probation earlier this year.
The criminal arrests of Braulio-Pereyra and Lamb followed the Dec. 12, 2006, administrative arrests of 1,297 illegal aliens when agents executed civil search warrants at Swift facilities in the following six cities: Marshalltown, Iowa; Grand Island, Neb.; Worthington, Minn.; Greeley, Colo.; Hyrum, Utah; and Cactus, Texas. Subsequently, 274 of those arrested were criminally charged with identity theft or using fraudulent documents. ICE administratively arrested an additional 18 illegal aliens during a subsequent two-day operation at the six plants July 10 and 11, 2007.
But what about Whitman-- should she not be charged with hiring and harboring an illegal alien

No way, no how. She has documentation that Santillan signed claiming to be a "Legal" alien. Plus copies of forged documents given her by Santillan to show her supposed "Legal" status.
Just how stupid are you?
