I can relate

Why in the world would you be talking about your own demise? Nice song, though. Have to tell you a little story on me. We had a really bad winter last year and had to shoot a few cows (yeah, Florida gets cold and dry and lonesome). I pitched a fit at the ranch headquarters and told the men/boys that we were going to a certain pasture on Thursday (this was Monday). Little did I know, because I hadn't stopped to look, that a cold front would be coming through on Thursday. I was out there on my horse and forgot my slicker and was shaking so hard I thought I would fall off. It probably wasn't that cold to you men but it was below freezing with a wind of about 35 mph. All the men had slickers which they promptly put on over their coats. I thought about that crazy song "Against the Wind" and thought I was gonna die. Unfortunately, I lived to feed the cows and dogie calves we brought up to the house!

I have to say that it has never been cold enough here as to have to shoot a cow on account of it. Never too soon to think about estate planning. Especially when you live miles off the grid in a sometimes inhospitable environment with big nasty predators and regularly working with cows. :???: I wouldn't read too much into it, gcreek likes the song but he has fought too hard to get where he is to not get to hear it a few more times.

It don't hurt to have one picked out. Here's one I'd like 'em to play at the exit.

Dust Devil, that's good. I like Clapton. What a great musician he is. The only thing I asked my family (the boys) is that when I die I DO NOT want my cousin's husband to start singing a cappella by my grave like he has at a few of the family's burials. The men are to take him down and beat him sensless (which shouldn't take too long).

Nothing like being prepared.

When the Big Fella puts that red dot on your forehead, it's time to go.

I've never had a winter where I had to shoot cows either. I prefer to buy hay or sell down before they get in tough shape.

There's a point of land in Chambers County east of here on the north side of East Galveston Bay called "Frozen Point". Around the turn-of -the -century before last, a very hard cold front blew in. When we get a real cold front, high barometric pressure and strong north winds, all the water can blow out of parts of the bay system, the bayous become narrow channels with WIDE sand and mud flats. Well back when that front blew in in the 1890's, all the cattle moved south and stacked up against the fences or ventured out into the bay flats and froze to death by the hundreds. Plenty of work for the skinners cause thats all they could salvage as the story goes.
