Something has been stealing our cat's food from out on the deck. I wondered about a skunk, but was informed that it couldn't be as it didn't smell like a skunk afer it had visited, so it must be a coon. Well I've only seen one coon in my life here so I was skeptical,...but maybe?? Anyway I set the live skunk trap up tonight and baited it with a can of cat food. Inside 15 minutes I caught my first cat. He hadn't eaten all the food so I just reset it and forgot about it. After supper the dog started barking and looking out the window. I peeked out the door and there looking back at me was Mr Skunk!! After several minutes of procastinating and debate on the best plan of attack I stripped off and doned a pair of old insulated coveralls and an old winter hat. I took an old blanket and snuck out the other door, crept up on Mr Skunk and covered him and the cage with the old blanket. He stomped his feet lots but only sprayed a little bit. I proceeded to carry him to the old water trough. Unfortunately for him he wasn't a very quick learner when it came time for swimming lessons. After a nice warm bath my wife says that there is no skunk smell on me at all. I hope that she is being honest!! Will find out tomorrow when my neighbour joins us for breakfast. I'll bet the cat food lasts a lot longer now!!

My dad lives along the river here and they get alot of coons and skunks there. He's handicapped so he has alot of concrete sidewalks about his place down to the river.I made a cart out of 1x1 square tubeing with one 24 foot piece for the handle then mounted a box trap on the base which has wheels. When it has an "OCCUPANT" you pick up on the handle 24' from the trap and take them to the river. His home health aides use it all the time so it work's well for these gals.

Back when my Dad was young he got $5.00 for some of the better skunk hides after they were skinned and stretched. That was a tremendous amount of money at the time. He would go around checking culverts with barbed wire. If he found any he would pull them out and hit them on the head. He was asked if they ever got sprayed and his answer was "not often, just every time" One winter he made just under $1000 on skunks but he was kicked out of school a lot!! I think the skunk hunting about quit when he got married in 55.

No need to get all suited up, all you do is grab it by the back of the neck and hold down the tail at the same time, and they cant spray. (THIS IS NOT A TESTED HYPOTHESIS, BUT IT SHOULD WORK) Have you ever saw a skunk spray with its tail down?

Fast, when you test your theory, please make sure it going to be on a day when I will not be in, I think Friday afternoon would be good then maybe by Monday we will not notice you.

First one Dad got out of a culvert his older brother told him to pick him up by the tail so he couldn't spray. Dad said the only thing that does is get the spray right in the eyes! According to him the only way to keep a skunk from spraying you is to shoot him in a trap and go back the next week and get him out. That doesn't help a lot if the trap is in the yard.
