War is the normal course of events for mankind and has been as long as history has been recorded. I don't like people getting killed but until the world is a gentle, peaceful place, War. The more "civilized" one part of society becomes, the more barbaric the other looks. For the last 2500 years several wars have been fought trying not to be over run by Islam. If it hadn't been for Charles the hammer at tours repelling Islam, the world would look different. I guess that's a battle the French (franks) won.

Edit: that should read the last 1500 years.

Man, you are really stretching now...

Not a stretch. How about our War of Independecne? There might well not be a United States of America if the French had not come to our aid against England. Don't they deserve your gratitude for that? Or didn't you study history in your school?

"When the war was over, the great problem remained to conclude the peace. The French politicians determined to make the American alliance turn in every way to their own advantage.,...The French politicians were opposed to a separate peace treaty for the United States, but they proposed to have a treaty in which American independence and sovereignty would be tied directly to the French treaty. And then they could hold the United States under their own direction.,...

Franklin knew French politicians too well, and he resolved such conditions should not result. Franklin was courageous, bold and had a definite sense of vision plans in diplomacy. consequently, he met the leaders of the British commission and secured a separate treaty with them. He secured just what he wanted for his country; namely, the absolute independence of the United States, recognition of it as a distinctive government,...

The French commission was furious.,....

they helped,...but hoped for the final payment for that help to be the US itself.......Maybe you should read a little history before you make general misquotes....because,.."There might well not be a United States of America if the French had" got their way "
