We got some calves bought last Saturday, and how do I go about getting an afidavide(sp) on the calves, if they are drug free???

Buyer should have probably got that for you when he bought the calves- now you are at the mercy of the previous owner...You need to get ahold of that previous owner and see if they fall under the drug free/all natural and then make up an affidavit for him to sign...I'm not sure but I believe USDA has a special one for some programs- but most I have seen were made up by the feedlot--Most usually ask for birth period (like March 1-June 1) , country, state, and county ran in, any feed additives given, any shots given, verification that they've had no antibiotics or implants, any ID markings ( hot iron brand, eartags, etc.) ...

Some I've seen- usually for the specialized lean meat programs also included breed/breeds of bulls and cows ( Future Beef required 1/4 exotic blood)....

Katrina if they went through the barn, and were advertised as such I personally would look to the auction barn to provide that. If it's private treaty then I would look at the market you are thinking you will market them through when they are ready, get the requirements from them, contact the seller and see if the calves will qualify. If they do, get them to sign the affidavit and have it notarized.

There's a certificate and a consignment affadavit that you can download at this Superior link, if that will help. Just scroll to the bottom of the page for the links.

Most of the local barns around here and even video representatives have you fill out a form when trying to sell all natural. We just delivered ours and had to have doctored some as babies last spring and we provided the buyer with a list of the calves doctored and the medication used.

I'm shocked the barn you bought from if listed as natural didn't have the paperwork all in order.

They weren't listed as drugg free...... These are calves we have bought before and when I talked to the guy on the phone before he sold I asked him and he said they could be as he hadn't doctored any or used any romensian(sp) or implants....... I just need to get a letter written to send to the buyer........ Please don't make a mountain out of a mole hill....... It's nobody's fault I just needed some advice.... It may well be that we can't go that route. I just wanted to know.............
