I just don't think Obama is nominatable...Just not the time for a black with ties to the Muslim party- and a name like "Obama"...The country is not that progressive or globalized yet...

While all 3 top Democrats (Hillary, Obama, and Edwards) beat all the Republican candidates in a head to head race in the polls-- if Hillary happens to stumble (which I think is about impossible with the number of scandals she already survived) I think the nominee will be Edwards-- and in the head to head polling he does even better than Hillary against Gagliani, Romney, Huckabee, or McCain...

You dont like that he appeared with a pastor that is antigay or that he's a common 2 faced politican??

No I don't like that he appeared with a pastor....doing the way he did is WRONG! He even changes his speech to sound " Southern"...and that pi$$ed us off as much as city folks trying to be/act " cowboy" does to ya'll.

And speaking of the pastor, being anti-gay or not is not my issue, I don't think it's ANY pastor's buisness who sleeps with whom.

Seems a lot of them don't play by the so called' 'rules' either, so who are they do deem what is right and wrong. Hypocritical in my book.

And finally...all politicians are 2 faced...it's part of the job. You, as a voter, have to decide which degree of 2 faced you are willing to tolerate.

" Cousin" John will surprise you as time passes and the dead weight falls away. Me, I'm thinking VP right now.....then he's in place for a comfortable run at Pres. later on.

My relatives in Chicago thought that this was the plan all along. I hope it isn't. I do see real policy differences between Obama and the current republicans that I don't see with Hillary.

When you are running for president, you have to get votes and support from all kinds of people. The key is not allowing the bad make the policy when you are elected (like Clinton did with his pardons and Bush with energy policy).

As far as talking "Southern" to the audience, my wife always knows when I have talked to my family or friends in the linguistic south. She doesn't want me to talk that way to her. This southern accent is my heritage but my wife enjoys the more educated language and less accent. Personally, I believe the way some southerners use their dialect gives you more information than some people who use all kinds of words. My grandfather could impart more wisdom in the few "southern" words he used than any lawyer could do in court.

Iff'n we have to have a Democrat President--which I'm quite sure we are going to get- like it or not- with the neutering and despoiling of the Republican Party and the conservative image that GW has done  :( --- I would prefer Edwards over Hitlery or Osama Obama...And that is kind of the feel I get with many of the local Dems, Ind., and used to be Repubs of the area--they really don't want another Clinton and fear Hillary-- just don't relate to Obama--but could tolerate Edwards...

And again in this election it appears it will not be voting for the good candidate- but just the one you can tolerate......

We're a red state that is moving purple-- but usually votes (R) in the Presidential contests altho Bill Clinton carried it (mainly because of the vote for Perot)...Bloggers are saying it appears a Dem could carry the state again......

Let me help you out there, Kol.....

Words are tools to describe thoughts or ideas. The "educated" words are only bigger or more succinct, more uncommon, or usually coming from a wider exposure to ideas and language of other people. Read Herman Melville's Moby Dick for the extreme example (I believe Melville mastered 3 languages).

I know a lot of farmers who can say everything in plain language better than many "educated" people can with their formal language. I use the term "educated" as a colloquial term.

I am sure you get the meaning.

Understand what formal English is. Realize that if you write the way you talk, you most likely will end up using informal English. You even may find yourself committing grammatical errors! Remember, too, that talking informally can make the listener feel more comfortable, but writing informally can make the readers think less of you. Know when to use informal English and when to use formal English, and discover which style comes more naturally to you.

I like Obama, too. After he's served a couple of terms in the Senate, he might be my choice for President. I think he needs more "seasoning" in national and international matters before he's settled in the Oval Office. Look at what the last inexperienced governor did for us. Heck, look at what the last TWO governors did for us.
