All political candidates call themselves freedom-lovers, but they are not. Neither major party really opposes government control of the economy or of our personal lives. I'm a libertarian because I see the false choice offered by political left and right: Democrats talk about personal liberty; Republicans talk about economic freedom. But what they do once in power belies their words.

I say we're best off if government just leaves us alone to our peaceful cooperation with whomever we please. Let politicians advocate moral behavior. Let them give to charities. But leave government -- which is physical force -- out of it.

That's why I like Gary Johnson, the former Republican governor of New Mexico. He's the Libertarian Party candidate for president. As governor, Johnson vetoed 750 bills, and yet he got re-elected in that blue state.

I asked Johnson what it means to be a libertarian.

"Fiscally responsible, socially accepting ... more liberal than Obama on several issues, more conservative than Romney on several issues."

Gary Johnson definitely has his good points, but at this time he is nothing more than a spoiler. He is muddying up the creek. Obama has had his chance. He has proven his inabilities time after time. Will Romney be any better? We can only hope so, and there is no way he could be any worse than Obama. Romney is electable if Gary Johnson would just bow out of the race. There is no chance for Johnson to win, but he could darned sure spoil Romney's chance to win. Any voter that can't figure out this scenario is beyond stupid.

Oldtimer has spent the last 4 years defending his support/vote for Obama to the point he has completely lost his credibility with most on this website doing so. And Now he wants us to believe he is going to support somebody that has the complete opposite view point of his hero Obama.

I call BS on Oldtimer. Nobody defends a big government president/dictator like he has and then wakes up in the morning and flops over to a COMPLETE OPPPOSITE CANDIDATE.

As soon as voters find out that he's soft on Illegals, and wants to legalize drugs, it could seriously cut into Obama's base.

OT wants to convince as many as possible, that a vote for the "romney spoiler", is the correct thing to do, so he can continue to get his "freebies", thinking nothing off his grandchildren and their future.

Plain and simple.

maybe the superpacs should spend a bit of money in swings states "promoting" Johnson's free border drug for everyone policies..

I would bet it would be money well spent... heck.. if enough Johnson free border drug for everyone voters pull votes from Obama .. Romney might even take California..

He proposes a 43% cut in the military, He proposes to cut all support and aid to Israel, He thinks Iran is not currently a military threat.

so he should do well in far left liberal states.. and take a dent in Obama's vote total if "promoted" properly...

anti-war..
muslims.. and anti-Semitics.
pots-mokers,
criminal immigrant supporters..

other then the black vote. it looks as if Johnson could take all Of Obama's support..

I'm starting to like the guy as well..
Go Johnson !..

The Liberterian Party platform seems too simple minded, vague and utopian to be taken too serious.

On the other hand, the Democratic platform is too full of BS, blame, and athistic views. Its mention of God is without any meaning, it could say 'Nature' and give the same meaning. But nature is just a work of God.

Matthew 7: 21 "None of those who cry out 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of God but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven."
Luke 6: 46 "Why do you call me 'Lord, "Lord,"and do not put into practice what I teach you?"

The Republican platform also has a lot of BS, but does put God in the right context of His role in our constitution and Declaration of Independence as our creator and giver of rights.
The Republican platform also gives more emphasis on individual rights. (Excepting the "Woman's right" to kill her unborn child.)

Gary Johnson at 6% in national poll, campaign files lawsuit for not getting in the Presidential debates
By Rob Nikolewski on September 22, 2012

A national poll released Friday (Sept. 21) showed Gary Johnson receiving 6 percent support when his name is included with Barack Obama and Mitt Romney while at the same time, the Johnson campaign filed a lawsuit against the Commission on Presidential Debates for excluding the Libertarian Party presidential candidate from joining Obama and Romney in the upcoming debates that begin in October.

We’ll start with the poll, which was conducted by Reason/Rupe of 1,006 adults, including 787 likely voters who say they “definitely” will vote in the next election.

When asked if they would vote for the Obama-Biden, Romney-Ryan or Johnson-Jim Gray tickets, the results from likely voters were:

Obama/Biden 49%

Romney/Ryan 40%

Johnson/Gray 6%

Vote for Someone Else 1%

Would Not Vote less than 1%

Don’t Know/Refused 4%

Johnson’s name will be on the ballot in at least 47 states in November.

The poll also limited the choices to just Obama or Romney and when that question was asked, the results from likely voters were:

Obama/Biden 48%

Romney/Ryan 43%

Vote for Someone Else 2%

Would Not Vote 1%

Don’t Know/Refused 6%

ot must not of gotten the koolaid memo where obamas campaign manager said for the lefties to quit watching the polls. After all in a lot of the polls thew lefties aren't looking to good. I really could care less, the real poll is in Nov.

Now if you took a poll of drunks in a bar who got government checks obama just might win that one.

I like Chianina, but I don't think it would be a good idea for our program to implement the breed.
There's a big difference between liking something and knowing that something will be a beneficial change. Based on Johnson's own words, it looks to me like he's a swisher and a swayer---whatever way the wind blows---and that just plain sucks for Americans who want better for their country. We are in a position now where we better be willing to buckle down and make the hard choices---these countries are not our friends and the days of 'let's talk it over' are over. For crying out loud, Oldtimer, you have the the Pakistani minister telling us that we need to stop disrespecting the phrophet if we do not want more attacks and going so far as to expect the UN to make a law against hate mongers of Islam. Yet, when they kill us, it is because there is only one god to them, and it is not ours--doesn't sound very accepting of our belief.

Since when do foreigners tell us Americans what our rights are? We are too far beyond being accepting of every Tom, Dick, and Harry's beliefs and problems---you feel free to vote for him, but you better be ready to pay the piper when the shizzle keeps rolling downhill.

you have to really love the poll takers.. for the humor they provide..

the results from likely voters were:

Would Not Vote 1%

if your answer is that you are not going to vote,.. then you are not a "likely voter"
