I need a hug :(

Just had a rough session with one of the young ladies I counsel. Some times I get through to the girls other times I do not. Feels like I am losing this battle :( I just signed another recommendation letter for her to be submitted to St.Pauls.

Her part of the deal was that she stay above 98 pounds. I had suspicions and we had her urine tested to see if she is faking her weight. Sure enough there was barely enough urine to be called urine. Just kind of bummed as this time last year one of my girls went in and never came back home. :(

Thanks! I really appreciate! It really is hard in this line of work to keep a thick line of rope between personal and professional.

Keep your chin up, Judith. You have done your best. That's all you can do.

Your website has an interesting name. Related to your counselling duties, perhaps? Kinda nifty, I thought.

A big thanks to everyone. And yes, Changing Strides is a dual meaning. One for changing the horses from track to riding horses and the other for the disordered eating I deal with.

Some days are better than others, I think today looks like a good day, I have offers of Ice Cream and Homemade wine! What could be better than that :)

I think the name is super neat.

I bet those horses help you deal with those
girls more than anyone would know. Horses are wonderful therapy.

You humor must help everything, Judith. You have a wonderful
sense of humor.

Sorry to hear that Judith.. I grew up around a few kids who had this problem... One of my best friends sisters had a problem with it, didn't really know anything about it until after a few years iof being drifted apart his mom ran into my mom and as they were catching up she told my mom about Hillary.. couldn't believe it.. She was one of the lucky ones in some regards but.. Just awful, Kudos to you for trying to help these young ladies...

Sooooo sorry to hear about this young lady.....sounds like she is battling something bigger than both of you combined!! When I was in nurses training, I helped care for a 15 year old who suffered from anorexia and she simply broke my heart...she was in the hospital in butte and they are simply NOT trained there to take care of such "problems".....I was ordered to sit in her room while she ate and remain by her side for 2 hours afterward to make sure her food "stayed put".....she was sad, angry, resentful, suspicious and downright TERRIFIED!! Her bones stuck through her skin and after a week of begging and pleading, I finally managed to let her well-to-do parents know that this child needed intense, specialized treatment!!! They tearfully agreed (though, it was rather "inconvenient" to their busy schedules) and took her to a facility in Arizona the next day......when I escorted her to the lobby of the hospital, I took off the St Christopher's medallion my sister had given to me and I gave it to her......he is said to be the patron saint of travellers and I saw this child as being on a long, hard journey!! I have never heard where she eventually ended up, but my prayers continue to travel with her as I can only imagine where her road lead! Know that my prayers are with you and with this young lady....... you are both travellers and I pray your paths meet again!! :!:

Judith I'm just catching up and reading about the group you are helping. It is a strange and resistent disease and I admire you for hanging in there.
Our friends have a daughter who was diagnosed with anorexia and was told she had to be admitted to a special hospital immediately or she'd die. She was in college and didn't want to lose a semester. She made it thru college and med school and soon will finish her residency- something many of us doubted would happen. She works hard to maintain her weight and keep a social life going, She says it is only by the grace of the Lord that she is succeeding! So keep up the good work! A big hug to you.

I can not express in words how much I appreciate this family I have through ranchers :) I just thought I would add that the young ladies name is Sarah. God will know which one :)

The horses are a huge release for me. If I come home and have had a really rough day, I can cry into a mane. Lay on the hay and just smell them.
I also have the worlds cuddliest son. I never have to say a word, He will climb into my lap and brush my hair.

In BC we have only 6 beds for treatment at the moment. Pretty sad really, only the most desperate of cases recieve any help. Unfortunately this also means that the majority of the young ladies will die within 6 months. We manage to get through to about 10%. Disordered eating is one of the most fatal mental illnesses we have to face today.

Many of you would probably be shocked by my work alter ego. The work person is a very different one than the individual you know from Ranchers. But when the suit comes off, I make up for lost time. Life is too short not to have fun!

Today was a good day though, her electrolytes are looking better and her heart was not so irregular. Problem is that most seem to be doing better and that is when the Good Lord takes them home. There bodies are so damaged by this point that refeeding will kill some. She started this behavior at 10 so parents keep an eye on your babies! Enough yapping from me I have to run and pick up buddy from school :)

Thanks again for the support guys :)

I don't know how you do it Judith, but I'm glad for the patients' sake that you do. I know they say you can't bleed for everyone, but if you're a caring person, it's pretty hard not to. Keep your chin up, and hang in there.

Is anorexia only an American problem,or is it in other countrys also? Don't know much about it,but think fashion designers should be forced to show off their cloths where they look best,on a coathanger.. Noone real can wear those cloths..
