@&%!*#^ ICE!!

The temp today was up to 40 degrees again with 40-50 mph winds-- and you could hardly go outside...Our snow has melted down and turned to scattered piles of ice and with the layer of water on it from the melting temps and the wind you could just spread your arms and slide thru the yard today- If you could stay on your feet

Yesterday afternoon I was carrying an ammo box I was going to mount on a tractor as a tool box when my legs went sideways and out behind me at the same time.....I hit the ground harder than if I'd came down off Descent or Bodacious-- face and elbow first into the ground....My whole body aches today- and I definitely didn't do good things to my back and shoulder....The heated pad on the bed felt good last night....

Then today Grandma comes home from town and I am helping her haul in grocerys, when the wind hits her on that wet ice and she does a half gainer-- comes right down on the leg she had her hip replacement surgery on...Her knees all bruised up and we're both gimping around...

Noticed several cows and a couple of the bulls gimping around too.....

Just as soon have a couple feet of snow all winter...

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes, Oldtimer. You each take a couple of aspirin, drink lots of water, and call us in the morning with an updated report. Good luck.

Hope you and the Mrs. start feeling better OT.. Nothing like a good fall on some ice to bang you up good... I'm gimping around here for the next couple days myself but not from ice.. Here is some advice for the terminally stupid., such as myself.

Don't wait to castrate those last bulls that you thought about keeping. Do it sooner rather than later. i like the big banders and all but I don't want one in my hands again for a long time.....A 800 pound animals jumping up and down on your foot does not make for a fun Friday afternoon (I am not even sure he was that big but my foot is telling me he weighed no less than 10,000 pounds).

2) When going to preform such procedure make sure you grab the steel toed boots, not the non steel towed... My middle toe on my right foot is the prettiest shade of Purple, Red and Black right now.. Ouch.

3) Make sure the guy helping you waits until you get out of the chute before releasing said one of said creatures from head gate. Being backed into and pinned into the back of the chute, even for a second, leads one to comtemplate saying things that he may or many not regret.. After that, it led me to say lunch before I cursed out the releaser. Hey, I'm learning to let calmer heads make decisions.

4) at least now I have a story to tell the Chiro who adjusted me this week with the comments of did you play football and break you sternum, take a bad fall recently? You are pretty beat up for a 30 year old.....Or my simple, the opening comment... What the heck did you do to yourself? Oh well, I'll be fine by tomorrow, today was a bit hobbely.

Bugger to be gettin' old.

Il rancher why do you get in the chute to castrate? I just open the side up and lean in. Never been stepped on or kicked.

Actually feeling a lot better today--only moaned groaned and cussed twice this morning...Once when I had to pull some frozen strings off the bales this morning- the other when I had to crawl under the grainery to rescue the pup that got her leash rope tangled up underneath while chasing cottontails  ...

Even got a good nights sleep with the help of a couple of Darvocet-- Love those drugs 8) Grandma's doing pretty good as long as you don't touch her- sounded like every place she touched was ouchy and she's definitely ending up with a pretty colored knee....

Sounds like our part of the country is predicted to get about an inch of snow today--just enough to cover and hide the icy spots

Weather boys are still saying the plains is in for a really cold shot starting Wed or Thurs with below zero temps that have the possiblilities in areas to be 30 Below (that'll be here  )......Some cold is supposed to sink as far south as Texas....But they think it may be fast moving and only last here 3-4 days with the bitter cold.....

BMR...Hmm.. Good question... I guess everyone who I have ever seen do it does it from inside the chute. Have seen 5 different vets do it and a couple of fellas do it and it was always done inside the chute... I'm trying to picture if the chutes we have would even work the way you are saying you do it.. I would think so..

Well, thanks for giving me something to think about while I hobble around... That being said, working cattle might get to enjoyable if I wasn't in pain for a couple of days after doing it, lol.

As long as it's just cold weather that's fine. Don't want any moisture along with it.....cuz I barely can walk on dry ground and not fall n hurt myself....I don't need any help like that

Well there's nuttin like being in pain together OT...at least you both have sympathy for each other...and don't expect one to wait on the other...lol I know how quick that wind can push ya on the ice...this morning the same thing happened...wind gust came up as I was closing a gate on ice...swooooshhh..went my feet..but caught my self on a post...didn't have the hard landing you all did...but sure stretched the muscles in the ole arm. Take care of yourselves and each other...

IL...sure hope you feel better too! Gettin squished from chest to toe...kind of a funny vision...But I'm sure not funny at the time...take care.

Jassy, as much as I hurt yesterday and Friday night I mentioned to my wife that I thought it would be funny as heck to watch what happened on video, knowing now that no one was seriously hurt... kind of like bloopers on TV or something.. The only thing bad today is that I am still a bit sore and tired (More to do with my daughter having some stomache distress the last two nights than anything else) and the toe is still quit painful.....

As far as the leaning in from the side.. I have to wonder if there is enough room with the small chute we use... Maybe with the bigger one... Only one way to find out but I think I'll wait a couple more days on that
