Well daggum.....if it weren't for bad luck with calves, wouldnt have no luck at all. Some kinda critter, don't know if it was a dog, or a cat, attacked the back end of a 2 week old heifer calf (girl parts) She was fine Friday afternoon when I was out, happened sometime over the weekend while we were gone.
Pasture roped her, and took her to the corrals, poor lil thang is swollen somethin awful and already has maggots (ughhh)......gave her a shot of penn, and then sprayed her backend with some antiseptic spray.(which got rid of most of the maggots) Will flush with water and do hydro tomorrow, along with another shot of penn. She seems to be doin fairly well, lotsa fight left in her, and hasn't lost any weight. What next???
Am I gonna hafta set a trap for neighbor dogs??? That's what it looked like to me, but usually a dog will go for the head first, and no scratches on her anywhere else. ????
