Does anyone get IGR mixed with CTC? is this advantageous?

I have been using IGR for years and this year we are going to add a high dose of CTC between branding and preconditioning. We had a bad case of summer pneumonia last August that my vet thought was caused by pasturella but when we posted calves they found haemophilus somnus. The calves got Vision 7 somnus at branding plus the 4way viral vaccine but in doing some research every vet will tell you that haemophilus vaccine isn't very effective for the bacteria that end up in the lungs. Haemophilus somnus is susceptible to CTC so hopefully the calves are eating enough mineral by August that we might get some benefit before it's time to precondition when we can give another round of Vision 7 somnus in them.

Any one else ever had this problem?

That sounds like an excellent approach to me. I bet your calves will eat enough mineral by August to do them some good. Especially when you keep mineral out up to that time and they are used to eating it. The CTC won't alter the taste.

We have learned also that many times, at branding, the calves are too
young to utilize the vaccines, except for blackleg/C&D.
