If you're fair to Ike, the Brits were still driving the scene over there. Still, it would be nice to replay that post ww2 stuff, cause we are paying spades for mistakes
OT, how does one support a minimum govt libertarian, then support a big govt guy like Obama?
Actually if you want to look- there is a conversation between me and Sandhusker about the exact same thing prior to the 2008 election... And as I explained to him then- and I've explained ever since-- I voted for whoever could end the policies of George W. Bush and which were being echoed by John McCain... Not only his invasion of Iraq lies- and the Trillions $ he squandered there - but because I could envision the Bush Bust which we ended up getting... I believe I began predicting the Bush Bust in numerous posts in 2005 and from then on -- but up until the day the walls were tumbling on the savings and loans/Banks neither Bush nor McCain could see it- pronouncing that "the fundamentals of the economy are strong"... Our country couldn't stand any more of that blinded "asleep at the wheel" vision... And when Paul went down as a candidate the only one left was Obama... (I donated to both campaigns)... (Bob Barr was the Libertarian candidate that year and while he disagreed with GW as much as I did- and was fiscally conservative- he didn't follow most of the Libertarian social platform)...
Obama won in 2008 mainly because of the ineptness of GW....
And personally- and economically- even tho we haven't fully recovered from the Bush Bust (and I don't expect it until about 2017-2018-- 10 years) personally and locally I can't remember a time when the economy was better... Record cattle prices- decent wheat prices- anyone that wants to work has a job and can earn whatever they want...
I'm not a fan of many of Obama's directions/policies - and lean more toward the libertarian views and their last platform -- the conservative fiscal policy- states rights- with a tolerant stay out of my life social policy...That is the reason I voted for Gary Johnson in the last election... But realistically I'm not sure a Libertarian candidate can win a national election-- altho I think Rand Paul is correct when he says the Republican party needs to lean much more toward the libertarian thinking on some of the social issues if they want to get the big tent they need to win a national election....
Heres one of those old threads:
