I'm glad he's home alive.

Our two oldest sons are apprenticing for electricians with my oldest brother and his son. Today Jonathan, the second oldest, got the jolt of his life.

They were starting an upgrade at a new customer's industrial shop and Jonathan had thrown the main disconnect open at the panel.

He then proceeded to pull the fuses as his boss (my oldest brother) has told him he should always do when working on 600 volt. Just to prevent any stupid accidents.

Well someone had done something stupid alright. Whoever had done the original installation had put the live wires into the wrong end of the fuse holders.

When he grabbed the fuses (which were supposed to be dead) he got a 600 volt blast up his arms and across his chest.

It froze him there for a second or two and then he collapsed and hyperventilated and twitched for a while longer. He said it just tore a scream out of him like he had never before screamed. And his whole body was full of stabbing pain.

Now, all he has to show for it is two little white burn marks on his hands where he was holding onto the fuses.

Tomorrow the investigation starts as to why the panel was wired backwards by the original contractor. I would not like to be him.

Thank you, Lord, that my son is alive.

Finding this in the Coffee Shop, I started reading anticipating a punch-line at the end, but certainly nothing funny in that story. Glad to hear he's ok.

Sure glad he's okay, MLA. Someone was definitely watching over him.

When I was about 4 years old, we lived in a trailer park because my dad
was a heavy equipment operator. Someone had unhooked and moved their trailer out of the trailer park. This particular morning, it had rained. The light pole was there and all of us kids lined up to take our turn to stick our fingers in the place where you plug into electricity. (I have
no idea why we thought this would be fun.)

Everyone was wearing tennis shoes but me. I stuck my finger where
everyone else had, only it froze me to the pole as a great jolt went
through me. One little girl about 6 years old, took a run at me and knocked me away from the electricity. If she had taken hold of me,
it would have gotten both of us. I owe her for my life and I don't know
who she was.

I lost some of my hair, my fingernails split and I couldn't walk for
about 3 months. It was a close call.

Someone was watching over me too.

Thank you, folks, for your kind thoughts and words. No, he did not look for any medical attention. This morning he complained of a sore neck and put a bandaid on his finger where he had a deep, localized burn that was actually open.

He did say that it sure was good to sit down and eat breakfast this morning!

He said he also had a little different view about some of the things that had been annoying him before. They did not seem so big anymore.

Ever been there? I know I have. Sometimes we just need a real hard jolt to give us a reality check. I'm just glad he survived his. Even without what he experienced, one could not want a better son.

My Thought are with him

I've gotten ebit many times
600V 2 Twice (3 years apart)
440v several times
220v Many times
120/110

The worst was 120v when my feet were wet and someone turned a switch on.

Second worst - I was working on a pannel when my Crasy Bone Clicked - Through pliers - everyone laught - the pannel was not hooked up to any power

50+ years of electrical work!
