I'm in a bad mood this morning and just decided to blow off a little steam!
Too much about the economy and politics I suppose.
My interpretation of a recession is that I have very little money to spend and that the bills are overwhelming my income causing me and the work that I do to die a lingering death. That creates a domino affect because the next guy down the line needs me to spend so that he can make a living. I need to be able to spend – not the government.
A depression is that most everyone has no money to spend or pay bills. In either case the high costs of everyday living stop me from being productive and self-supportive.
Giving me a $125 tax cut is like pissing in the ocean.
I don’t want to be retrained – I want to be able to continue doing what I do and make a living at it!
I don’t want government and the elected representatives so big and untouchable that I and the other citizens can’t control them and that they don’t have to listen to me.
I don’t believe that a few BIG corporations, farmers, ranchers or landowners are better and more efficient than lots of small businesses. Small business, including agricultural, have always been the basic fabric of America and kept it strong and actually some inefficiency is what makes the next guy a buck. When small businesses fail (and they do) there is a very small ripple effect but when large businesses fail it devastates many.
I don’t care if China, Russia, Mexico or any other country grows or fails economically – I care if we do! I don’t want to buy a tractor, car, or anything else that I can’t get parts for locally.
We’ve had the technology to have vehicles that can do better than 30 mpg for years – why should we let automakers wait until 10 years from now to produce them? “What’s the matter – don’t they have enough shares of stock bought yet”
Trade among different countries is fine when applied that “if you have something I need and I have something you need” is the basis for trade – not so that another country with poverty/slave labor can produce junk and bring it here to put me out of business!
Since you as a politician work for me, let me decide if you need a raise and certain benefits. Putting the fox in charge of the hen house has never worked.
Why are you so afraid of line item veto?
Why is it that every day as a born and bred citizen of this country I have to be asked if I want it in English or Spanish, worry about offending a other countries beliefs, have talk to someone in another country about a service question about a product I bought here, or pay my share of taxes to prop up another country’s economy?
Why should I have to be afraid to say “God”, the pledge of allegiance, or black Americans? This country was founded on a Christian God! I should be proud to support my country without worrying about being politically correct! There is no Afro-American – you’re either an African or an American! Be proud of your roots but support who you are and if you feel such a strong tie and need to support your linage then go there and be part of the solution!
Every businessman or company should have the right to run their business as they see fit but if you choose to do it in another country then don’t expect to sell your product back here. You become a foreigner and sell a foreign made product therefore take a backseat to American made products produced by American laborers supporting their families.
It’s bad enough that we have allowed 12 million illegal immigrants into this country and give them every benefit in the world, let them have every job opening that comes along and then use the excuse that “we don’t want to do that type of work”. Well, take those on lifetime welfare roles and tell them it’s work and a paycheck or starve, and the youth of today and tell them if you want a I-Pod then get your ass off the computer and phone and get a job! And, all those 12 million immigrants send likely 1/3 of the income they receive and send it back to Mexico thus doing nothing to strengthen our economy!!
Being a politician should not be a form of (particularly lifetime) employment but rather something we as citizens do as duty to serve our country. It’s time we put term limits on any political office from local to President.
Maybe we should move the Congress to Guateamo and keep all the lobbyists out. You know if everyone who isn’t an elected official left Washington it would be a ghost town.
A salary of even in the hundreds of thousands dollars isn’t out of line but any CEO making in the millions and additional perks is rape and greed and should be punishable! Any stockholder that sees a CEO and board members making those kinds of salaries should pull their money out. They put their pants on the same way you & I do and most likely work less so that while you bust your ass everyday they wine & dine at our expense!
There will be so much money spent to elect a president that it would almost pay off the national debt - too bad it isn't spent that way. That would do more good than what we will get on who ever is elected.

More then likely becuase with it most of what your saying is wrong in Washington would have to be addressed. and those who voted on it would have to take credit for thier actions...

and that is the reason I will not support Rudy..

Oh - and I forgot a couple more
New York is NOT is not the national capitol of the USA
And, it's the job of the news media to REPORT the news not edit it. I don't need them to tell me what I should eat, buy, or the best canidate. That's why they have an editorial page.

Not to interrupt your rant, but the Supreme Court of the US overturned the Line Item Veto that Bill Clinton got through Congress. So if you have a problem with the fact the Constitution doesn't give Congress the authority to pass a line item veto, maybe you want to subscribe to Huckabee's suggestion that we rewrite it?

The line-item veto is unconstitutional, the Supreme Court decided Thursday, ruling that Congress did not have the authority to hand that power to the president.

And I believe the attorney that argued the case for NY to kill the line item veto is now running for President as a "fiscal conservative" :gag:  --Gagliano

Thank you, cutterone, for telling it like it is. You had the guts to spill your guts.

I am all for term limits. There is only one downside that I can see. There would be all that many more Congressional retirees who would be drawing a paycheck for life, after they were no longer in Congress. :? :???:

This is from your literary speech, "Small business, including agricultural, have always been the basic fabric of America and kept it strong and actually some inefficiency is what makes the next guy a buck. When small businesses fail (and they do) there is a very small ripple effect but when large businesses fail it devastates many."

I like those thoughts, because it gives me justification for doing some of the stuff I do. We hire some of our hay put up, hire some windmill work done, and take our vehicles to town to get service work done. With a little more talent and ambition, I could work harder and get some of this done myself. My thoughts are that these other folks need to make a living, too. We even enjoy eating dinner once in a while at the local cafes, when probably money could be saved by coming home to eat. Our operation could undoubtedly be more streamlined and efficient, but as long as we can make a living, I am more than willing to help other folks make a living, too.

Soap our Congressmen shouldn't be able to retire with full salary after only one term, there needs to be another way.
I like your last paragraph-that along my line of thinking. We have all seen people that wouldn't even buy themselves a coke just to save a dime.

Well thanks for the support. It's just been one of those weeks and I've just about used up both ends of the pencil trying to figure out how to save this little operation my wife & I have going! Let me tell you where I'm coming from.
I grew up here on a farm and watched it and my future go away when the droughts devestated many farmers in the 60's and my parents & grandparents had to sell the family farm. I also was in college and farming, my dad had already taken an off-farm job in a factory to keep us afloat and my sisters in college. I stayed in some form of Agri-business, mostly in construction but never lost my passion for farming & livestock. I had to move over into housing constuction and even started my own busines selling livestock equipment. Been married a couple of times and have five children & step children and a boat load of grandkids.
In this community there is but one young person left that lives and farms in the community- the rest have been sold out or driven away. It seems that every business that I have been connected to has also. I managed to buy this little piece of dirt and have raised a few cattle and horses but had to have an off-farm job to support my farming habit. I worked in a factory for 15 years -got up at 3:30am each morning, fed and went to work and put in an aveage 10 hours a day and came home, did the feeding, baled hay, trained horses, mended fences and the like until after dark, went to bed and did it again. After breaking my back and being held together with rods, cement, and screws, busting and wearing out both knees and one shoulder the company decided that I was too old and slow to keep up with the fast pace lines and gave me a forced retirement (as they called it) with no pension or insurance. (I can use the recreation facility and get a weekly newsletter) I took my measly 401K and invested in registered cattle and have been building a pretty good herd.
I'm now 60 years old, can't get much of outside job, can't draw social security and the cattle market and economy just plain suck. I've got the best wife in the world - she even worked two jobs last year and she's best hand any rancher/farmer could ask for. I am truly blessed for what I have - just don't want to loose it.
I'm not asking for simpathy or a hand-out, don't want to make it big, just want to live out the rest of my life with a modest income and continue smelling that dirt and cattle I've come a custom to. I'm tired of being pushed around by big business and government. I have a feeling that many on this site feel the same way.

Was your physical problems due to on the Job injuries? If so seems you should have received more from employers than just your 401K?

If not it sounds like you might have been more the victim of bad luck or bad planning, due to droughts and unforeseen physical problems?

Hope things look up in the future!
