In His hands

This was done by an artist I know that recently moved to Ruidoso from Arizona....(he's the real deal too, but this one can draw!)
I just fell in love with the story this one told.

Julie, if you know the artists in the Ruidosa area, do you know Dale or Ted Robertson? Dale used to play the best blues harmonica along with being a prety good artist, and Ted was a basic drunk artist....incredibly talented. Back 25 years ago Ted, me, Gary Freudenberger (a Roswell artist), and Michael Hurd used to hang out a bit. I saw Freudenberger two years ago....he lives in Knoxville KY now, I suppose Mike still lives down in Hondo, but I lost track of Ted. I also heard Jim White ( I think it was) bought Riverside.....guess I need to head back down that way one of these days and see who all is still kickin........

While I am asking about some of those guys around there, do they still play polo on the Circle Diamond? They had that enclosed arena that was a lot of fun. Peter Hurd put together some of the local cowboy types (this would have been around 1975-1980) as a polo team and tried to get us to play Robert O's professional team.....it was fun but we got our ass kicked. I suppose the Hurd place still has the polo field in their front yard as well.

Is Louise Massey's adobe hacienda still standing? Last time I was in that area was in the late 80's. I've only been back to Roswell once since then, for my dad's funeral five years ago, but never made it up the valley.

I'm not real familiar with the Ruidoso scene from those days --so don't know those guys but do know Michael Hurd is still in San Patricio..opened a gallery and has a polo field their that they have matches on occassionally. Louise's name sounds familiar but I'm not sure what you are talking about as far as her Adobe --

Riverside is closed and vacant --the state 4-laned the highway through the Hondo Valley a couple years ago -- it changed the feel of the drive through there altho it's much easier to navigate...supposedly safer.

Louise Massey was a singer from the WWII era. Her biggest "hit" was "My Adobe Hacienda" and she had a sign over the gate to the portal that had My Adobe Hacienda on it. She passed in the late 60's or early 70's as I recall. I got to meet her when I was in high school in Roswell, and she was a little old lady then......and I graduated in 66. Her place was down the valley, but I don't remember if it was Hondo, San Patricio, Tinney, or where. I just knew it was between the Capitan turn off and the Downs.

I figured you would know about Michael. As part of the Wyeth dynasty he is hard to miss. Ted, on the other hand, used to pay his bills with paintings. e would do a painting over a weekend and take it to the bank and borrow drinking money against it. He was mostly in Roswell then. He moved to Capitan in the late 80's, not too far from Richard Farnsworth place. I saw him in 91 or 92 when one of my brothers took me up to meet Farnsworth.

Just out of curiosity, are you familiar with Tandy Hunt, the Roswell attorney? Used to be state representative from Chaves County? He's another one I need to visit one of these days soon......neither one of us have all that many years left.

So tell us more about Richard Farnsworth. He was always one of my favorites. I was so sad when I heard he killed himself.
I didn't know him that well. One of my brothers that live in Roswell did a lot of back country riding with him in the Capitan's and the White Mountain Wilderness. My short time visiting, he was in quite a bit of pain, but he maintained his sense of humor and was incredibly gracious. He was pretty much the way he was in the movies....quiet, humorous, and down to earth. No airs or put ons or "Hollywood" to him. Just a working cowboy who got lucky and made some money.
