The president is pushing an economic stimulus package of $825 billion that raises some of the issues that were at the heart of your campaign against Barack Obama -- $275 billion in tax breaks, including money for people who don't pay income taxes; $550 billion in spending, including $200 million to re-sod the National Mall, $360 million to fight sexually transmitted disease.

Looks like the US tax payers are going to pay alot more for the Obama's $170 million Bash than anyone throught. What say you ALICE :!:

Has anybody heard when they are going to erect the 60 ft statues of Obama in Red Square,

oops, I mean Times Square

How fast do you think that statue will come down if Obama closes Gitmo and one of those released detainees is involved in a terrorist attack on American soil ie New York City, while Obama is still in office?

Probably not long...but then, what makes you KNOW that will happen? You got an inside track on something?

Bring the other side Alice This stimulus package is to stimulate the economy . Nobody is to ask question but in that STIMULUS package according to the news it includes new grass for the National Mall. What happen to the grass that was there ALICE that Obama feels he needs to spend $200 million dollars of STIMULUS money to replace it?

Did you see the word IF in that question Alice I don't know. Can you guarantee it will not happen From what I heard on the news 62 of those detainees that have been release have gone back to the war and are involved in the deaths of US soldiers. The ones that are still at Gitmo are the most dangerous of all of them. Gee I think a few of them were even involved in the 9/11 attacks do you want them out planning another attack ALICE. Renaming Schools and streets and building statues I see as a bit premature when Obama has done nothing to warrent the glory. Let's see if he is even a good president let alone a great president before you start erecting statues.

The economy-stimulating potential of a $6 million snow-making machine for Duluth, Minn., for example, is not likely substantial. New Orleans wants $2.5 million to buy "100 Veloway Bike Program bikes" -- that works out to $25,000 per bike and probably zero new jobs. Durham, N.C., wants $2.5 million for a "Museum Without Walls." Durham says that will put 50 people to work, although the project seems to involve only minimal construction.

Did a bit of research for you Alice This is from a Rasmussen Reports article titled
Only 26% Think U.S. Will Be Safer At Year’s End
Jan 7 2009
Just 26% of Americans think the United States will be safer at the end of Barack Obama's first year in office than it is today, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

Forty-two percent (42%) say the country will not be safer at the end of 2009, and one-third of Americans (33%) aren’t sure.

from the same report
mid-December, President Bush gave a speech in defense of his national security record as president, but at that time just 46% of voters said the nation was safer than it was before the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Forty-three percent (43%) of Democrats believe the United States will be safer at the end of this year that it is today, while 20% disagree and 37% are undecided. Republicans think just the opposite, with 67% saying America will not be safer and just eight percent (8%) disagreeing. Twenty-four percent (24%) of Republicans are unsure.

Adults not affiliated with either party by a two-to-one margin say the United States will not be safer, but 37% are not sure.

In a survey just after the Thanksgiving week terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India, 59% of voters said a similar attack in the United States is at least somewhat likely in the next year. Twenty-three percent (23%) said it is Very Likely.

Only 43% of Dems believe the US will be safer after one year of Obama. The other 57% say no or are not sure WHY?
While 67% of Repub. believe the US will not be as safe after one year of Obama. WHY?

59% believe it is somewhat likely there will be an attack on US soil in the first year of Obama. while 23% believe it's very likely. Which leaves only 18% in the not possible and undecided catagory Why? Bush kept the US safe from another attack for 7 years.

Here is the title of another more recent article
59% Fear Too Much Government Spending Is Coming

Guess what! I have a life outside of this board.

I have no idea WHY on resodding other than it must need it. And it will provide jobs for something that is needed! Or, maybe you think a contract with Halliburton is in order!

You ever ask why Universities spend vast amounts of money on landscaping? I suppose it is to make the campus look nice. Would you expect less for the nation's capitol?

Tam, you can come up with some of the most inane crap just to keep arguing...and arguing...and arguing... :?

It might need to be done but is it such an emergency that it needs to be pushed through in a EMERGENCY STIMULUS package. Why not wait until the ECONOMIC emergency is over and let the House and Congress discuss the spending of 2 Million dollars to plant grass. I thought Obama said NO PORK. What about the contraceptives money that is hid in the package that Pelosi wanted. IS that not PORK Alice? :???: What is the emergency on providing Contraceptives?
