Inglis to GOP: ‘Lose Stinking Rot of Self-Righteousness’

South Carolina Rep. Bob Inglis made a name for himself in the late 1990s as one of Bill Clinton’s most zealous pursuers, an impeachment “manager” who attacked the moral failings of the president with a gusto that earned him a devoted following in the staunchly conservative “Upstate” of conservative South Carolina.

But with his governor now felled by similar temptations, Inglis sees an opening for the Republican Party, a chance to “lose the stinking rot of self-righteousness” and “to understand we are all in need of some grace.”

This is not “Bob Inglis 1.0,” the one that was a “self-righteous” expletive, he said in an interview with Washington Wire today. It is a Bob Inglis that is, if anything, more Christian, more attuned to the Gospels, he said.

His last conversation with Gov. Mark Sanford was about the hundreds of millions of dollars in stimulus money that the uncompromising governor was trying to refuse for his impoverished state. Inglis had voted against President Barack Obama’s $787 billion stimulus bill, ardently, he said.

But he said he told the governor, now that it was approved, “for goodness sake, take the money.” It might just help.

Indeed, Sanford’s political fall could be a saving grace for what remains of his governorship, Inglis suggested. “This may be an opportunity to extend a little grace to other people, to realize that maybe it’s not 100% this way or that way,” Inglis said.

Unfortunately for him, the attitudes of “Bob Inglis 2.0” are not all that popular among many of the voters who once adored him. He now has five primary candidates fighting his re-election, and another conservative independent, should he clear the primaries.

“They want me to walk around saying I am the paragon of virtue,” Inglis said. “But that is unrecognizable to the Gospels.”

The attitude of some seems to be that this is merely a competition between Repubs/Dems.

Wouldn't it be a better idea to evaluate if the finish line is where you actually want to be, instead of picking your "favorite" to win?

I have voted for Republicans in the past. But back then, I believed individuals had the best interests of their constituents and country at heart. But I've learned my lesson in the eight years of Bush; the main consideration of Republicans is the survival of their party. That's not good enough. When Republicans start to break ranks, stop voting as a block, and looking at issues instead of trying to block votes on EVERYTHING (especially in the House), I'll look at individual Republicans again. But right now, it's doubtful that I'll ever vote for a Republican again.

My point was, that both parties are taking the US to the same finish line.

What did the Bush administration do, that the Obama administration is not also doing?

You can "cheer" or vote for whomever you like, but without some genuine change, it looks like the result is going to be the same either way.

But your assumption that Obama is taking us to the same finish line isn't accurate. Saying it over and over won't make it true.

Obama isn't perfect, he's no saint. But, you know what? He doesn't pretend to be. That's what makes him different from these Republican politicians that have been outed the last few years. Those, like Sanford, who screamed that Bill Clinton should resign from the presidency. Is Sanford resigning? I didn't hear that yestereday. But, hey, that's different.

Bush and Cheny and their Republican enablers in control of Congress sold this country out to big business. Oil, drugs, insurance, banks...... They all fleeced the American people under the lax regulation enforcement of the Bush Administration. For years, CONSERVATIVES have preached the "we don't need government" mantra and many fools believed it. Bush left thousands of oversight jobs in the government empty. I don't believe there's one agency in this government that was left untouched by the Bush Administration. From bad drugs that killed people (FDA) to rolling back environmental regs, to not examining imported toys (and babies died), to failure to enforce financial regulations, failure to inspect coal mines (people died), Bush and the Republican Party gutted the government of it's duty to protect Americans. I won't forget that. Obama has a looooong way to go to even start to be on the same page as any member of the Republican Party.

Reader, you can assume whatever you like. No where have I said that Bush had anything to do with the 911 terrorist attacks.

Contrary to those on PB that have explicitly said that the Iraq war was for Bush's oil connections.

You seem to believe that just because one believes in certain facts, they also subscribe to the same opinions of those stating facts.

Your belief is totally incorrect.

Go read what the families of the victims of 911 are asking for.

WHY DO YOU CONSTANTLY HIGHJACK THREADS WITH YOUR INSULTS? What would have been wrong with fff and I debating this thread topic, in a civil manner, but here you go, I'll respond.

You don't seem to get the fact that I do believe some of the scientific evidence.

But I do not come to the same conclusion/opinion that SOME 911truthers have come to. Why do you automatically assume that I think Bush had anything to do with it?

You sure do have a lack of curiosity and reasoning ability for such a science buff.

Here's some other "foolishness" for you to attack. Maybe if they push hard enough for some "Truth", there will be less chance of such a tragedy ever happening again.

Are these people insulting you also?

We want truthful answers to questions such as:

1. Why were standard operating procedures for dealing with hijacked airliners not followed that day?
2. Why were the extensive missile batteries and air defenses reportedly deployed around the Pentagon not activated during the attack?
3. Why did the Secret Service allow Bush to complete his elementary school visit, apparently unconcerned about his safety or that of the schoolchildren?
4. Why hasn't a single person been fired, penalized, or reprimanded for the gross incompetence we witnessed that day?
5. Why haven't authorities in the U.S. and abroad published the results of multiple investigations into trading that strongly suggested foreknowledge of specific details of the 9/11 attacks, resulting in tens of millions of dollars of traceable gains?
6. Why has Sibel Edmonds, a former FBI translator who claims to have knowledge of advance warnings, been publicly silenced with a gag order requested by Attorney General Ashcroft and granted by a Bush-appointed judge?
7. How could Flight 77, which reportedly hit the Pentagon, have flown back towards Washington D.C. for 40 minutes without being detected by the FAA's radar or the even superior radar possessed by the US military?
8. How were the FBI and CIA able to release the names and photos of the alleged hijackers within hours, as well as to visit houses, restaurants, and flight schools they were known to frequent?
9. What happened to the over 20 documented warnings given our government by 14 foreign intelligence agencies or heads of state?
10. Why did the Bush administration cover up the fact that the head of the Pakistani intelligence agency was in Washington the week of 9/11 and reportedly had $100,000 wired to Mohamed Atta, considered the ringleader of the hijackers?
11. Why did the 911 Commission fail to address most of the questions posed by the families of the victims, in addition to almost all of the questions posed here?
12. Why was Philip Zelikow chosen to be the Executive Director of the ostensibly independent 911 Commission although he had co-authored a book with Condoleezza Rice?

There are many on PB that are sick of you coming onto PB and trying to squash the truth, when it comes to global warming, BSE, Food safety etc. You most probably found Ranchers by doing an internet search on BSE, and thought that you would come on board to attack those Ranchers who you believe negligent in your husband's death.

If I was into making assumptions about people, I would assume that you work for the government and are posting on PB, working towards some DC agenda. My guess would be FDA or some agency like it. You are most probably working for US taxpayer dollars, through contracts.

Quit trying to project your guilt and sins of being a conspiracy theorist on others.

If you are in doubt of what I believe ask, don't assume that I think as you do.

There, how are those for some assumptions?

You forget fff that hypocrit believes that Bush brought down the WTC as an excuse to start the war in Iraq. Go check out his thread on PB on that subject. He's irrational and not worth paying attention to at this point. One minute Bush is a hero and the GOP are gods, another minute they murdered 3000 Americans secretly and covered it up!

Time for the straitjacket and meds.

And there are many who are sick of you overrunning the board with conspiracy theory posts but the one you posted today TAKES THE CAKE.

I can do without PB. I took a long hiatus and was perfectly happy.

You obviously cannot do without the adulation you receive here so you are welcome to post unread after unread post from tinfoil wearing anti-American wackos. Apparently there are others who hate the U.S. as much as you do because they sure as heck let you get away with it.

But I call you on it. It's SICK SICK SICK.

The last thread about 911 was revolting. Others ignored it but how can they allow you to post articles accusing our government of murdering 3000 innocent people?

Because you are a sad person and they pity you. That's the only explanation I can come up with.

But I give you NO excuse for this crap.

If it gives you pleasure to bring up the death of my husband, then you should really take a mental health break, because that's sick too.

Have you figured out where AREA 51 is yet?????????
If you can't figure that out how can you really have any creditability of any kind??

   Yeah, that's it hoppy, being knowledgeable about UFO lore is what gives a person credibility here. Sheesh, I should have studied better in wacko school like you did LOL.

I didn't go to the better than thou school where all I had to do was mention someone who I pretended to know to get some sort of feeling of self respect, so saying that i didn't go to the same scholl as you did!!
Don't forget WHO it was that brought up AREA 51 Sure wasn't me, but I knew enough to make sure of FACTS before I opened my FAT mouth far enough to look stupid
