Insurance scam? Your opinion please.

Yesterday I got a phone call about Medical Insurance. It certainly sounded good, until they got to the place where they would send me the
written information AFTER I gave them my credit card number. (Which I didn't do.) Oh, yes, I can get a full refund after I read the litature, but the introductory offer goes off on Friday and they just can't get the information sent before the offer expires. It was $79/mo (regualar price $279.) Pays 70% of everything, including glasses and hearing aids and prescriptions. There also is no deductible. :???:

They have a website, but I need to find where I wrote it down.
Also, I got a phone number where I could contact them.
The caller said they were located in Arlington, Texas not very far from
the new Dallas Cowboys Center.

Your comments, please.

This sounds like the place that I saw an ad for in the local paper. They advertised no physical, no screening. and no age limits. I called and talked to them. IT IS NOT AN INSURANCE. They are a discount type of place. If they are working with your local medical group, they arrainge supposidly massive discounts and for, I thinks it was $69/month you could get all the discounts. They wanted a $96 up front information fee to get you started. I think the company was called Family Pratice or something like that.

Yep, Alabama I agree. In fact, that's exactly what I told the guy on the phone.

And NMRancher, I think you are right about it being a discount deal.
But the name wasn't Family Practice. I need to find the info I
wrote down. I write on anything handy--which isn't good--

A dead giveaway for a scam is the urgent, gotta do it today pitch. I know of NO legitimate business that will not give you adequate tie to verify them via the Better Business Bureau or the internet. If they won't give you time to research them, they are hiding something.

Second, NEVER give credit card or identification information to someone who calls you. Get the name of the company, tell them you will look them up and call them back if you are interested.
