Yesterday and friend and I went to a cattle sale and had time to talk while on the road and he brought up an interesting take on the election.
Many of us have a favorite NFL, baseball, or basketball team we follow and if the coach of that team had a loosing record for 4 years we would call for his head to be cut off and not just fired but ran out of town tared and feathered yet many will let Obama off the hook.

Big Swede, and another friend, and I were eating dinner together at the sale barn cafe yesterday. An older gentleman and his wife were sitting across the table from us. The discussion turned to politics, as often happens these days. The older gentleman remarked that the aging George McGovern (born in 1922) is not doing well health-wise. George McGovern was a very liberal senator from South Dakota who was the Democratic nominee for President of the USA in 1972.

Our visiting partner mentioned that as the election approached in the fall of 1972, one of his acquaintances proposed a bet that George McGovern would win the election. Our new friend said, yes, he'd take the bet. The other guy said, "For how much?" "$10," was the reply. The other guy said, "That's not worth the effort." Our new friend said, "How about $500?" His opponent said, "You are on." Our new friend then said, "Well, I'll make you another bet. I'll also bet that McGovern doesn't even carry his own state of South Dakota." That wager was also accepted.

The election turned into one of the biggest landslides in history, with Richard Nixon winning mightily over George McGovern. The bet was paid out, but it took until March of the following year for our new friend to collect the money.
