Hi All;

Been lurking here and learning what I can gleen from these boards.

I really admire you folks and appreciate the posts and pictures. I'd also like to say that It is refreshing to see the encouragement that you dole out to others, unlike the "discouragement" that is directed to folks trying to get started.

Currently we live in S.W. Florida. I am married to what has to be the finest woman in the world. We have 5 daughters, ages 3 to 19.

I own and operate Southern Welding, a small company that I started about 12 years ago. My wife is super mom and has a nailtech business that she started this past year. She also is going to school to obtain her teaching degree.

We are working towards our goal of getting out of the rat race here and moving to Colorado. This is taking some time and patience as we are steadfast determined to do it entirely debt free, including the ranching bit.

Shortgrass' recent post about not being in a hurry hit the mark for me. This week my wife and I will be flying out to Colorado to meet with a rancher face to face that has been gracious enough to start mentoring me. We intend to use our ranch to help spread Love to foster children, give our own children the opportunity to experience some of what my wife and myself enjoyed growing up on a farm and in the country, and a host of other things that I am sure will be revealed to us later.

In the meantime before we make the big move I've been working on putting together a pasture lease here. No easy task considreing zoning laws, developement and just plain non-interest in agrigulture that is here.
Might be best for me to start purchasing needed items and equiptment while the cash flow is steady and get my hands dirty abit more making the mistakes and learning what I need to learn.

Thanks for the opportunity and it sure is nice meeting you folks.

Best Regards....bart.

Good luck in all you endeavors.
We have become like a big family here. Most of us have never met some have met since being on here and a few were friends before.
I think we all try to tell things straight. If we don't think something will work or is right we try explain why.
BUT just like in any family we all don't agree all the time.

Welcome to ranchers.net Bart. Patience is definitely a virtue so hang in there. Sounds like you have some good goals--best of luck in your new venture. Ranching sure won't make you the richest man in the world, but the lifestyle is worth alot more than all that money anyhow.

Welcome. :)

One question, why Colorado?

Not that there is anything wrong with Colorado, other than all them Californian's who've moved in in the last 10 years or so, and sent all them folks from Colorado to South Dakota..

Thanks all the replies.

Jinglebob, I'll make a long story kinda short. My wife and I made a number of trips thru parts of the west. I like the solitude found out on the plains, however, my wife likes the mountains and having a few folks around.

Anyway, one day we come thru a mountain pass and laid out before us was the most beutiful green valley full of cows and one teeny tiny town like where I grew up in Michigan, and we just looked at each other and knew this was where the Good Lord had led us.

That's pretty much the simplicity of it all.

Best Regards....

She works part time _ does barrow the money but banks it _ lets that account pay the loan of _ builds Credit and makes money on the Interest!

At 23 _ Her Line Of Credit on her Angus Assoc. Card and others Scares !!Me!! but she handles it very well!

Thanks again, everyone.

I hadn't planned on a not-for-profit, mostly cause I like profit, I think;)

PerhapsI'll look into it a bit.

Best Regards.......

Around here, most ranches are not-for-profit. They weren't intended that way, it just seems to happen.

You know, I've never been in S. CO for very long, just drove by it once. I see it's just W and a little S of Pueblo. That is very pretty country...the mountains in CO are gorgeous. My grandmother lived in Estes Park...that's pretty country. My stomping grounds were Ft. Collins area.

Good luck to you and your family :)
