Ironic Comparison!!!

Palin’s lawyer uses a very bad example
Tuesday, September 2, 2008
Presumed Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin has hired a private lawyer to defend her in the “Troopergate” investigation. Palin is accused of abusing her power by pressuring Public Safety Commissioner Walk Monegan to fire Palin’s ex-brother-in-law, and when Monegan refused, she fired him for no reason.

Even though the Palin administration says they are cooperating fully with the investigation, the main purpose of the new lawyer seems to be to delay the results of the investigation until after the presidential election (which makes you wonder, since if she is innocent you would think she would want the results to come out as soon as possible).

Of course, is also the problem that Palin has changed her story several times. First she issued a blanket denial that there was any pressure from her office, but when a tape recording was produced of such conversations (including from her husband) she admitted that there was pressure, but that she didn’t know about it. But Monegan claims he had conversations with Palin herself and has copies of emails from her.

The private lawyer, Thomas Van Flein, first questioned whether the legislature had the authority to investigate the matter at all. Instead, he wanted it investigated by the state Personnel Board — a panel appointed by the Governor herself.

Van Flein also says that he can’t guarantee that Palin will be available any time soon to testify in the investigation. So much for full cooperation.

But what makes this ironic is the statement issued by Van Flein:

Our concern is that Hollis French turns into Ken Starr and uses public money to pursue a political vendetta rather than truly pursue an honest inquiry into an alleged ethics issue.

This is doubly ironic:

a Republican is asserting that Ken Starr persued a dishonest “political vendetta” against Bill Clinton. Really?
The Palin investigation was approved unanimously by a Republican-dominated Legislative Council, so it would be Republicans who are carrying out a “political vendetta” against Palin.

Hmmm. The final report (if Van Flein doesn’t succeed in delaying it) is due out October 31, just a few days before the election.

Tell me, Old Tool, if you were still sheriff (God forbid!!!) and you had a deputy that tazered his step son, beat his wife, threatened killing his in-laws, and drank on the job...would you fire him or promote him??????????? AND, if you did nothing, SHOULD YOU BE FIRED????????????

Problem is- none of that has been proven...Its all allegations...The man was never charged in court or convicted of a crime that anyone has been able to show me..

I've seen many false allegations put out by both genders during the middle of hotly contested child custody disputes..

But that isn't the question here-- the question is did the Governor illegally misuse her power and influence for personal reasons...And like the article said- there is enough of a question that a Republican dominated Legislative Council deemed that they needed to appropriate money and have an independent investigation.....

Robert Mac- don't you see the humor in comparing it to a Ken Starr/Bill Clinton political vendetta... :???:

Our concern is that Hollis French turns into Ken Starr and uses public money to pursue a political vendetta rather than truly pursue an honest inquiry into an alleged ethics issue.

Sorry, OT, but I don't find a lot of humor when the future of our country is at stake!!!

You, of all people, should know that hard, factual evidence can be thrown out of court and that can change what is "proven in court".

Two simple questions that require a yes or no answer...will you answer them?

Robert Mac- I can't answer hypothetical questions...Yes I've fired folks for less- and I've had folks accused of worse that were found to be quilty only of a vindictive accuser-- and it was found they did little or nothing...

And I learned quickly your best bet when it involves someone connected to you (employee/government official, etc.) your best move is to bring in a totally independent investigator and judger of the facts- and the sooner, the better...Just to guarantee there is not even the perception of impropriety...

The question that this situation brings forward does pertain to the future of our country-- and the reasoning ability of someone that wants to be Vice President....If she hasn't got the common sense to keep her personal family matters/benefiting out of involvement with her governmental duties/influence- than how can we be assured she can keep her family matters/benefiting out of all matters coming before her as VP....

Actually OT, I am not surprised at all. If you would stop this attack on her long enough to research her a little, I think you will find she is not the neocon Republican you rail against everyday on here.

How do we know? No one- even McCain or his staff seems to know little about what she has done...The reason Tucker Brown almost swallowed his Adams apple the other day when asked specific questions

And everyday new revelations seem to pop up...Now there appears she has more and more ties to the Stevens/Young Alaska machine...

And I found out now- she didn't even write her own speech the other day- it was done by a McCain speechwriter...Even a parrot can mimic someone elses words- but how are we supposed to find out what she's like if she's kept in seclusion and no one can talk to her- and when she does talk- she's only delivering a party prepared message. :???: .....

Like I said earlier- just from her lack of experience- and lack of 30 years ties to corruption and Lobbyist dollars, I agree she's better than old McSame-- but we have to take him to get her :(

PrairieQueen, you are exactly right...Palin is what OT has been asking for in the leadership of the Republican party and he's attacking her shows him for the hypocrite he is! The problem with the Republican party is that WE CONSERVATIVES thought we had won the battle with the election of President Reagan. But the country club, big business Republicans have slowly taken back control of the leadership. I have been encouraged about McCain with this selection of VP...and seems much of the conservatives in 'fly-over'country are also! :)

Do you have these same concerns with Obama??????????????? Like I said above..... :? :?

"Toopergate" has been going on since before Palin was elected Governor of the state. Most of these charges were looked into and the trooper was disciplined.

After Palin was elected, she contacted and complained to Monegan about the trooper again! He tried to explain to her that the investigation was completed, punishment doled out and the case closed. That wasn't enough for Palin. She came up with other complaints and when he refused to fire the trooper, she fired him. And it's not the first time she's used her political office to fire people who disagreed with her. As mayor, she fired the sheriff and the librarian because they had supported her opponent in the election. The librarian kissed up to her and was allowed to keep her job; the sheriff (a very experienced law enforcement official) didn't.
