Is Gay Issues/ Abortion that Big a Political Issue?

In reading the posts the last couple of days- everything is about voting the Gay issue or the Abortion issue--Are they really that big a Political Issue in everyones voting area?

Reason I ask that is, around my little area, they are one of the lower issues on the political spectrum...Doesn't matter if its a church social group, barroom corner, coffee shop, or the senior citizens--other issues take much more precedent- including the Ag issues, Healthcare, the economy, taxes and the deficit, the Iraq war, and the biggest for the last few years has been the corruption in state and federal government, politicians, and business.....Is it just me and little Podunk Montana or are they really that big an issue in your area :???:

I guess this area is much more of a live and let live area- if it doesn't affect me, I'm not going to worry about...Maybe we're mostly all closet Libertarians up here  - reason the vote can swing from heavy support for a Democrat- to heavy support for a Republican in another race--mostly depending on the person....

And we do have Gays here- and Lesbians...I know of at least 2 ranch wives that left their husbands and ran off with their Lesbian lovers--I know of several Gays that you could sit and talk to for days and never know they were gay-- one is a prominent business owner, another co-owns one of the largest ranch's that includes holdings in Montana/SD/Wyo...Another was in my church study group until he died...

Same with abortion- many here have the same Libertarian attitude I have that it is not a government issue- Its a medical, family, God and moral value issue...

These issues have only given cover to the looting of America in the Congressional Committees. They are moral issues sure, but they were used to do some things that ended up being far costlier to the American people in terms of dollars..

I heard a great idea on Paul Harvey today...Paul commented how everytime someone wins an award, during the announcement they also announce the college they attended to give it credit to for producing such a good person...

Paul suggests that everytime one of these Business CEO's or Politicians takes a fall for committing some criminal/immoral/unethical act, we should also announce the college and give them credit...

I think it would be a GREAT IDEA...See who'se advancing this new standard in business.....

He mentioned that Enrons recently convicted Skilling was a Harvard graduate...

Nothing is more costly than the loss of 40 MILLION of our taxpayers, doctors, cattle breeders, etc. Nothing!

I was talking to my wife about this issue tonight and we both came to a similar conclusion on the matter of gay marriage. We both feel being gay if a sin is a personal sin but so is cheating on your spouse. On cheating on your spouse, you are hurting someone else, on a gay marriage there seems to be no one else you are sinning against. If we had an amendment on the definition of marriage, we would both vote on it being between a man and a woman, with no intention of holding someone we knew that was gay in some sort of second class.

I bet it would be interesting to hear Dick Cheny talking to his daughter about this on the front porch. Seems inconsistent. Also heard Dick's wife getting grilled by a reporter about her writing about a gay situation 25 years ago.

Is there just something about the president and or vice president that would make one gay? Talking cheny and hillary here.

Funny that you mentioned "cheating on your wife"...I used to always amaze and shock the young cops and deputies when I told them about arresting folks for "Adultery"...Up until the early 70's when they rewrote the Montana Constitution (which was a huge mistake) the state had a law against adultery-- and there were several astonished guys got pulled out of the sack when their wife signed a complaint on them and the judge issued a warrant for them for adultery...Usually was always against the guys...Was usually used to get grounds for divorce, since that was back before the time of no fault divorce...

From a NewsMax interview with the pollster Zogby:

NewsMax: Are the Republicans rebounding from the Rep. Foley House page scandal?

Zogby: They are rebounding because it looks like they are getting some of their message back, but what was troubling in our poll last week for Reuters was that Democrats were given higher marks on handling ethics and government than Republicans, and that is the first time in a decade that the Democrats have out-polled the Republicans on that issue. So Republicans might very well stem the tide on the Foley thing - maybe salvage what otherwise is a horrible year by cutting their losses, but they have a lot of public trust to regain.

NewsMax: The old 3-Gs - guns, gays and God - played a significant role in 2004. Do you see these issues impacting in the swing states this year?

Zogby: Less so because you have very, very few Democrats in competitive districts who are against guns. In fact, the Democrats have made a concerted effort to find pro-gun candidates. The God part is really interesting because you do see the Democrats finding Jesus. But the other thing is that Republicans who vote - voted for God in 2004 - are among the most disaffected from the Republicans this year. They are the ones who are saying all right, we voted values and morals and what did we get? We got runaway spending, we got pro-choice, and we got more efforts towards gay unions than before. That is why you have this otherwise really knee jerk pro-God, pro-conservative constituency with a high undecided number.

NewsMax: Just how much trouble are the Republicans in?

Zogby: Make no mistake about it, Republicans are on the ropes. They are in big trouble.

It is just plain old hypocrisy on the part of republicans.
