Islamic flag flown in NJ

this story caught my eye when I saw it on the news this morning..

Man hangs ISIS-associated flag outside NJ home.

The flag, which is used by an Islamic extremist group responsible for violence in Iraq, has since been removed from display. Even so, neighbors still wonder why the flag was there to begin with.

“I understand now that people turn on CNN and see the flag associated with jihad, but that’s not the intention of that flag at all,” he told the website. The man explained that the writing on the flag reads, “There is only one god, Allah, and the prophet Muhammad is his messenger.”

“It’s not meant to be a symbol of hate. Islam is all about unity and peace. I am not a part of any group like that, and I’m not anti-American. I love my country, but I am a Muslim,”

this is just an example of how a person shows his pride.. and a flag is mistook to represent hatred.. at least the liberals are consistent on this one...

considering he has hung it for "years" shows his actual intent may not have been to support the radicals.

but his explanation of saying he loves this country rings hollow.. he is flying the islamic flag,.. and the flag of Turkey.. initially.. and not the American Flag.

I love my country.. My American Flag is properly hung and displayed.

uh oh.. maybe I was wrong in defending him,,,

Jihadist black flag

A black flag with the shahada inscribed in white was spotted on Jihadist websites from at least 2001. Even though the historical black banner did not have any inscription, this variant is commonly known as al-rāya "the banner" or rayat al-`uqab "banner of the eagle" after the hadith tradition, and has been dubbed the black flag of jihad by western observers.[12] Islamic extremist organizations that used such a black flag include al‑Qaeda, al‑Shabaab, the Islamic Courts Union, the ISIS and Hizbul Islam (2009). Some variant designs depict the second phrase of the shahada in the form of the historical seal of Muhammad.

the "seal of Muhammad" is circular, based on Ottoman era manuscript copies of the letters of Muhammad; this variant has become part of a widespread design of jihadist flags since 2006. Since the appearance of these flags in jihadism, some jewelry manufacturers have offered actual signet rings in this design aimed at "jihobbyists"

I would think a person displaying a banner would know it's implied meaning.. but then again,.. there are some really uninformed folk out there..

Sexton proceed to highlight two passages in the Hadith that are often cited as the inspiration for the flags.

The first is: “The black flags will come from the East, led by mighty men, with long hair and beards. Their surnames are taken from the names of their home towns and their first names are from a ‘Kunya.’”

The second states: “Messenger of Allah said: If you see the Black Banners coming from Khurasan go to them immediately, even if you must crawl over ice, because indeed amongst them is the Caliph, Al Mahdi.”

Sexton said “Al Mahdi” is a reference to Islamic “end times” theology.

the flags we’re seeing now, he added, are “contemporary black flags.”

a little more on the banner

“Messenger of Allah said: If you see the Black Banners coming from Khurasan go to them immediately, even if you must crawl over ice, because indeed amongst them is the Caliph, Al Mahdi.”

The Caliph (Arabic: خليفة‎ ḫalīfah/khalīfah) is the head of state in a Caliphate,

well... I guess they understand what it means... if the banner is seen coming from the east.. (Afghanistan),.. then go and join it.

He flies a Jihadist flag because he loves his country. I think the deal is, this ain't his country, or he would like to change it into a Muslim country.

I bet the media would give the same slant to a guy flying the stars and bars to show his southern pride.

Oh wait, that would be a hate crime wouldn't it....

But a flag associated with genocide and religious persecution won't find its way to being banned because it is freedom of speech.

Imagine the uproar if someone flew the stars and bars of the confederacy (thoughtful reflection suggests the stars and bars means almost nothing about slavery anymore than the US flag stands for slavery), but if you take those black flags for what they mean, you are a hater bigot.
