Israel Warns IDF Ready to Roll Against Iran

(IsraelNN.com) Israel's warnings that it will not tolerate an existential threat in the form of a nuclear Iran should be taken seriously, Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon warned in an interview with the Britain-based Sky News on Friday.

"The one who's bluffing is Iran, which is trying to play with cards they don't have," Ayalon told the news network. "All the bravado that we see and the testing and the very dangerous and harsh rhetoric are hiding a lot of weaknesses."

Israel has repeatedly warned the Islamic Republic -- and the rest of the world -- that it will not allow Iran to complete its nuclear development program and create an atomic weapon to be aimed at the Jewish State.

"If Iranian behavior and conduct continues as they have exhibited so far, it is obvious that their intentions are only to buy time and procrastinate," Ayalon said. He pointed out that negotiations with Western nations have not resulted in any reduction in Iranian nuclear activities.

Iran has vowed to continue all of its nuclear development programs regardless of what proposals for alternatives are offered by Western nations in diplomatic talks. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared last Sunday that Iran is negotiating with the West from a position of power, and compared the power of Iran's enemies to that of "a mosquito."

IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi politely warned the Islamic Republic in September that the Jewish State is prepared to defend itself against any nuclear or other attack it might be inclined to launch.

"We all understand that the best way of coping [with the Iranian nuclear threat] is through international sanctions]" Ashkenazi told an interviewer on IDF Army Radio. However, he added, "Israel has the right to defend itself, and all options are open.

The U.N. nuclear watchdog has asked Tehran to explain evidence suggesting that Iranian scientists have experimented with an advanced secret nuclear warhead design, according to a report published Friday.

US Rep. Cantor: Answer Enemies with Renewed Vigilance'

by Yoni Kempinski

(IsraelNN.com) Republican Whip Eric Cantor reminded the 2009 General Assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America in Washington that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is "the man holding the gun with which he vows to kill Israel and the Jews."

Cantor, the second-highest-ranking GOP member in the U.S. House of Representatives, called for determined and vigilant activity against enemies of the Jewish Nation and the West.
The State of Israel is now in dire straits, mortal danger

"We must answer our enemies' dangerous resurgence with renewed vigilance" said the U.S. Representative from Virginia, "lest we invite greater dangers for both Israel and the United States."

Cantor said that each day that passes brings the world one step closer to Ahmadinejad's possession of a nuclear bomb. "Have we not been down this road before?" he asked.

Netanyahu Leaves White House with No Comment

(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu left the White House after a one-hour and 40-minute meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama Monday night without speaking to reporters -- a rare occurrence.

The meeting had been grudgingly scheduled early Sunday morning by the White House just a few hours before Netanyahu was to leave for the U.S. to speak at the 2009 General Assembly of the Jewish Federations of North America. The ninth-hour appointment was a clear sign that relations between Washington and Jerusalem remain strained; Netanyahu had requested the meeting weeks ago.

Also in attendance for part of the meeting was Defense Minister Ehud Barak, National Security Council head Uzi Arad, Ambassador Michael Oren and Netanyahu adviser Yitzchak Molcho. U.S. officials included National Security Adviser General (ret.) Jim Jones, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, Special Middle East Envoy George Mitchell and National Security Council Director for Near Eastern Affairs Dan Shapiro.

On the agenda was the issue of Iran's galloping nuclear technology development, as well as the current paralysis in talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, and the claim by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas that he is resigning in January. All three matters are being taken "very seriously" by the Prime Minister's Office, said a spokesman.

Netanyahu had reportedly been planning to tell the president that Israel was willing to be "generous" in scaling back Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria, and "means business" about rejuvenating talks with the PA.

But the brief statement issued by the White House following the talks said simply that the two leaders discussed "how to move forward on Middle East peace." The White House spokesman added, "The president reaffirmed our strong commitment to Israel's security, and discussed security cooperation on a range of issues."

Netanyahu declined to comment on his conversation with the president, and cancelled a briefing with the media he had scheduled for the next day. The prime minister departed for Paris on Tuesday morning without speaking to reporters.

According to State Department spokesman Ian Kelly, special Middle East envoy George Mitchell is not planning to return to the region anytime soon to pressure either of the parties toward further talks. It is possible that Mitchell has decided to wait until after the PA elections on January 24, when the question of who is actually leading the Palestinian Authority may be clarified.

Juniper Cobra: Live Fire Test

by INN staff
Follow Israel news on and .

(IsraelNN.com) The IDF and the U.S. European Command concluded the Juniper Cobra 2010 air defense exercise on Monday. The exercise, which is executed once every two years, was held for the fifth time.

Approximately 1,400 U.S. personnel from the four services of the U.S. military took part in the exercise, as did an equal number of IDF personnel.

The exercise, which began on October 21, had three main phases. A "Field Training Exercise," stressed the cooperation between Israeli and U.S. forces in various drills throughout Israel. A computer-simulation "Command Post Exercise" examined the interoperability of Israeli and U.S. air defense systems. Finally, a "Live Fire Exercise" tested both Israel and U.S. air defense systems including the "Patriot" system.

Live test of Patriot system
Military observers from the IDF and EUCOM were pleased with the results and said that Juniper Cobra enabled participants to learn from each other's knowledge and experience.
The IDF spokesman's office released statements from senior military commanders regarding the drill:

The Commander of the Israel Air Force Air Defense Corps, Brig. Gen. Doron Gavish, said "…During the Juniper Cobra exercise we applied the active defense systems in cooperation with our counterpart and the Israeli forces. The exercise simulated challenging scenarios and the use of the most advanced weapons in the field. The exercise ended successfully. The professionalism of the forces and the level of cooperation between the two armies were reflected in the way the forces were activated. From an operational standpoint, the exercise and the learning process that took place during the exercise constitute another step in the level of readiness of these systems."

The Commander of the U.S. Joint Task Force, Rear Admiral John M. Richardson, said: "During the past two weeks, our two forces have stood together and fought through a very challenging scenario. We have brought together new technologies and new procedures. We learned some very valuable lessons and had a tremendous result. I want to thank the Israeli people, and especially the Israel Defense Forces, for their hospitality and cooperation."

Admiral James G. Stavridis, EUCOM Commander, wrote the following in an open letter to the Israeli public:
"A good example of our alliance is the military exercise Juniper Cobra, which is a bi-annual collaborative training event that prepares approximately 1,000 personnel from the Israel and U.S. air, sea and land forces to work together to protect against missile threats. You can be proud of the superb efforts by the men and women of your armed forces in what was an intense and in-depth three-week training endeavor. Our years of progress and strength show our shared commitment towards a stable Middle East."

December 2009 Israel has told Washington that is the deadline for the end of negotiations. If IRAN DON'T BUCKLE UNDER Israel will take them down.
