Bout 2 years ago, our youngest son brought an unwanted, new-born Jersey cross heifer home from the dairy farm he worked for a while.
Well, yesterday she had a nice (Angus X) black bull calf - he wanted a heifer to start his own cow herd - and is proving herself a fine young momma. Kinda nice to see him take an interest in starting something for himself on the farm.
And did I mention that with a nearly perfect udder that is far more than the baby can handle, I can see the potential for a few custards and other things lining the cupboard before too long? (Somebody mentioned elsewhere that hand milking is good for stiff hands - double benefit!)
